For those who found 2004's Aliens vs. Predator too lightweight in the gore-and-guns department, Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem offers a marked improvement in both categories, as well as a respectable amount of rumbles between the title extraterrestrials. Set in the 21st century (which predates the story to all of the Alien features), Requiem sends a crippled Predator ship crashing to Earth in a small Colorado town; unbeknownst to the locals, the craft is loaded with H.R. Giger's insectoid monsters, which make quick work of most of the population. As the human cast is slowly whittled to a few hardy (if unmemorable) souls, a Predator warrior also arrives to complicate matters and do battle with the Aliens, as well as a ferocious Alien-Predator hybrid (dubbed a Predalien by the sci-fi and horror press). Visual-effects designers and music-video helmers The Strause Brothers (who make their feature directorial debut here) keep the action on frantic throughout, which is wise, since the dialogue and characters are threadbare at best; that should matter little to teenage male viewers, who are inarguably the film's key audience. Fans of the Alien franchise, however, may find the offhanded nod to the series' mythology given during the finale its sole saving grace. --Paul Gaita, Amazon.com

 Something Only A Casual Sci-Fi Fan Would Like April 5, 2008

When it comes to the Alien vs Predator films I have come to realise that if you're a hardcore Sci-Fi fan or a hardcore AVP fan then you will not like this movie.
The Story: The predator ship is crashed back into Earth after the Predalien hybrid kills all the other predators on board. The ship crashes in the middle of a forest next to a small town which is unaware that it is to become the victim of a war between different Alien species. After the crash a predator elder sets off from the predator homeworld to do a clean-up mission and to destroy any Aliens that may be born before it arrives.
When the elder arrives he discovers that he has more to worry about than just the birth of a few Alien creatures, he has to deal with a whole new species.
My Review: Going into this film I expected to enjoy it as much as I enjoyed the first. The plot was lacking somewhat when it came to character development as it seemed to just be a film building up the the massacring of most of the characters in the most gory way possible. There was a great deal of different characters in this film which didn't seem like it was giving us a main human character.
The gore is definitely something that the Strause brothers wanted to focus on in this film as it seemed to be neglected in the first AVP. This had a very interesting premise when compared to the first film, the first AVP was based in an underground isolated temple whereas this film was based in an American town which lead to a lot of chaos. The urban setting was something I have wanted to see the Aliens in and is something I have wanted to see the Predator in again since Concrete Jungle.
As explained previously this had a number of characters but what seemed to be a lack of a main human character. I felt this pulled a lot away from the movie as it didn't give us someone to root for as opposed to the first film when we had Sanaa Lathan.
The Strause brothers set out to make a completely different film when compared to the first and that's something they truly achieved. It's a fun popcorn movie that the casual film fan would enjoy emensely.
Get it, you won't be disappointed.

I think this movie is great. I saw a ripped version, but honestly I was on the edge of my seat throughout.
The movie starts off exactly from the end of the previous Alien vs Predator outing (which was awful I might add). The Aliens are then released onto a small town on Earth which is completely devastated by the infestation.
To be honest there isn't a lot of character development but who cares if the SFX and flow of the film are perfect. I thought the director got it spot on for tension and suspense. What I particuarly like is the fact that the best parts of the first two Predator films and Aliens (the second movie of the Alien Quadrilogy) were brought back into this one.
There is one particular scene where some Marines are attacked and it cuts back to some helpless citizens listening to the carnage over the radio. Absolute quality action.
Personally I think the Predalien is a little overdone, but that isn't the main focus for the film so it still balances well.
In Blu-Ray this film will be absolutely amazing. Enjoy

This is a great extension of the origonal AvP movie, the story kept me gripped till the end and I was even able to ignore the minor diversions from Alien and Preditor 'law' that some people get way too hung up on. (Its just a movie!!!)
The Blu-ray picture and sound are amazing but this discs comes into it's own in special features. They are incredably detaled and cover all 6 movies with a very good degree of interactivity.
Overall a 4 star movie with 5 star special features.

I simply can't understand all the negative comments aimed at this film. I saw it and enjoyed it at the cinema and I only enjoyed it more on Blu-ray.
AvP: R is miles better than the first AvP which was a reasonably enjoyable bit of B-movie cheese but a whole world apart from the original movies. I found AvP: R to be more than that, the writer and directors clearly have a passion and enthusiasm for the Alien and Predator movies and all in all this film has the feeling and the magic of the first Predator and there are numerous neat little homages sprinkled throughout.
The Predator-Alien hybrid works really well and even more so, the fact that the Predator is not on our side, i.e. does not cosy up with one of the main characters as we had at the climax of the first film.
There is the odd (brief) moment of cheese and you do have to disengage your brain a little but it slips by as the movie as a whole is just a rolicking good piece of entertainment and as good as an Alien vs Predator movie could hope to be.
So far as the Blu-ray disc goes the transfer is simply breathtaking and all of the extras from the regular 2 disc DVD have been ported over. Although the movie is the theatrical version, all of the deleted scenes are here so who needs the extended version?
If your a fan and haven't seen this, what are you waiting for?!

To be honest I cannot imagine anyone making a "great" AVP movie, these monster mash ups are made more as a cash in on former glories than a serious effort to recreate the success of earlier movies. Also mixing the two franchises creates it's own problems for the film makers. For example. we all know what the aliens and predator look like so there is no suspense to be had from keeping them in the shadows.
The directers on this film do an OK job of introducing the aliens to earth, however from there all tension evaporates. The film is often too dark, something I hope isn't an issue on the blu ray edition.
The special effects are all good, but never ground breaking, what lets the film down is the cast. To be honest the best actors are in the aliens suits.
As dumb aliens shooting movies go it is throw away entertainment, undemanding fun.
