Amazon.co.uk Review A richly-acclaimed World War II drama, and one that deserved the many plaudits it garnered, Band Of Brothers remains as compelling, gripping and moving as it was when it first appeared over half a decade ago. And now it makes a very welcome debut in high definition. Across ten haunting episodes, Band Of Brothers follows the real-life story of the American army?s Easy Company, an elite paratrooper regiment, from their initial training through to the very end of the war. Along the way, not only do Easy Company take part in some of the most infamous battles and events of the War, but they also suffer many, often brutal losses. And Band Of Brothers pulls no punches in putting those moments across on screen. But that?s not, ultimately, what Band Of Brothers is about. At it's heart, this is the tale of a group of men relying on one another to get them through unthinkable situations. And this camaraderie is brilliantly put across by the generally unknown cast of actors, many of whom turn in outstanding performances here. The quality production values are sustained behind the camera, as Band Of Brothers? episodes are directed by the likes of Tom Hanks, Phil Alden Robinson (Field of Dreams) and David Leland (The Devil Wears Prada). The show gives all the impression that little expense was spared in depicting the right visual look, and the results are on screen to be admired. In short, Band of Brothers remains a vital, brilliant piece of television drama, and one that will stick in your mind long after the credits have rolled on the final episode. --Jon Foster

Band of Brothers the great TV Show from Spielberg November 11, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This Great TV show as arrived to Blue-ray after the great sucess in DVD and them in HD-DVD, only in Asia, now you can get this great 10 episodes plus one BR disk of extras for the price of the DVDs. Inside you have sound in English, French and Spanish plus subtitles for English, French, Spanish and Portuguese all at 1080P with DTS-HD sound for 624 minutes. If you like movies of war like Saving Private Ryan and others you should get this in Blue-ray or even DVD
THE BEST November 14, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Perfectly written, cast and filmed there really is no television series that can rival Band of Brothers. The Blu Ray release only adds to the experience, the 1080p picture is perfection but perhaps more importantly the DTS-HD sound is simply stunning if run through a home cinema surround sound system, the battle scenes are awesome and the explosions will have ornaments falling off your wall. The sound also brings to life the superb score by Michael Kamen, there is not a finer movie or TV soundtrack around, a true masterpiece. Full credit to Hanks, Spielberg, the BBC and HBO for giving us this classic and absolute respect to the real men of Easy Company, totally inspiring.
100% ESSENTIAL September 24, 2008 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
BAND OF BROTHERS....on bluray. This deserves a moment to take in how happy this makes me. Why? because its simply the pinnacle the best ever drama to grace a TV screen. In fact once seen every war movie you can remember cannot compete with the sheer emotion and quality of it.
Band of Brothers is based on a book by Stephen E Ambrose and is spread across 10 episodes following Easy Company from the 101st Airbourne from basic training to VE day. (US>UK>FRA>HOL>BEL>GER)
Each episodes begins with several living members of Easy Company speaking about his personal experience which brings so much identity to each episode. Its Emotional, Inspiring, Chilling, Funny. The cast is spot on from Sobel to Winters to Spears. The final episode where they are playing baseball makes me cry everytime. Also where the names and rank of the men who have been introducing each episode comes up the last time they speak at the end having seen what they went through....powerfull.
What Band of Brothers does, and what the people who made it should be proud of is it makes you have so much RESPECT and admiration for the men of Easy Company who fought in the war.
In these modern times where respect is demanded but rarely earnt these men, these band of brothers should be remembered. This superb series is a testament to that. And I for one think it should be shown in all schools as part of the curriculum.
Best mini-series ever! September 11, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Now don't slaughter me for this, but obviously at the time of writing the blu-ray isn't out yet so I can't comment on it's quality. I can however assure you that if the quality of transfer is anything as good as the HD DVD Japanese version - which I have owned for the last 6 months - you won't be disappointed. At this point I should point out that the blu-ray disc will be based on the same master print as the HD DVD version. Like any HD transfer the brighter the scenes the better the picture, so for example the battle scenes set at night are nice but not astounding. However as soon as the sun shines (Ep.3 Carentan), or the snow falls (Ep.6 Bastogne) the picture is super sharp and is definitely demo material. The sound, which on the HD version is DTS-HD is without doubt stunning. The episodes set around Bastogne are full of surround effects and when the trees start exploding it truly gives you an idea of just how frightening that place must have been. The DTS-Master audio on the blu-ray should be just as involving. If you are lucky enough to have a home cinema speaker set-up then warn the neighbours, it will get loud! Overall what I'm trying to say is that if anyone was worried about buying the series again in High Definition then don't, this box set will breath new life into what was already the greatest TV series ever.

The best war series/film you are ever likely to own. I defy anybody to watch all the episodes and not shed a tear at the end.
