fantastic small keyboard always near you October 17, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
That keyboard is very nice! It have keys like a normal keyboard (qwerty) and have all special signs (, ; . ! ? and other...) and you can write text to friend as fast as on normal keyboard and it don't take much place in your living room! It have also SHIFT key, BACKSPACE, CAPSLOCK or ENTER and cursors so that's fantastic! (with that cursors you can move in main menu in PS3 so this is briliant!) P.S. Sorry for my english if i say something wrong but im not english...
Works well, but why didn't they use bluetooth? May 29, 2007 22 out of 22 found this review helpful
The great thing about this mini-keyboard is that it doesn't intrude on gameplay like a full sized keyboard balanced on your lap. It works very well, and it feels as well made as the sixaxis controller.
The reason I didn't give it 5 stars are 2 design omissions (that probably kept the price down):
1) It uses a USB adapter (about the size of a USB memory stick) that sticks out of the front of the machine. Why didn't they make use of the available bluetooth keyboard support?
2) It uses 2 x AA batteries. Why didn't they make it USB rechargeable like the sixaxis controllers?
Maybe Sony will launch an official mini keyboard at some point, but for now this is the most convenient way to input text on the PS3.
Small and allways at hand July 4, 2007 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
This is not a bad thumb keyboard that is useful for longer bits of text. The PS3 predictive text is often faster for entries of one or two words.
The keyboard is well placed on the gamepad and the keys are well spaced. The small size and the pad clip ensure that you always have the keyboard at hand. For me this a better option than having a full size keyboard in my living room. As an added bonus for those that think that the controller is too light, this gives the controller weightier feel (but not making it too heavy).
It does have a couple of things that could be improved though. The main thing being some of the key choices (as this is a limited key set). It has no shift key (only a caps lock) and no alt key. The latter is useful is you want to use it with linux.
handy little bit of kit! June 8, 2007 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
the thumb pad keyboard is a very useful item and if u dont want a big keyboard then i would say go for this, remember tho unlike the other review it takes 2 AAA batteries. so thats my 2 pence on the item.
Useful than the Mediaboard? January 2, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
A nice very handy keyboard to use with your PS3. I also have a Logitech Bluetooth PS3 keyboard (see my review if you are considering to buy one) and frankly this thumbpad is more useful for internet and messaging with PS3. Although this is a limited keyboard, it has all keys you will use while surfing or messaging hence you wont feel the difference. Very handy as you can snap it to your controller and this works exteremely good while surfing (zoom with the controller, edit with the thumbpad). Not very heavy although uses 2 AAA batteries but you will feel the difference (don't forget to take it off while playing games as while shaking your SIXAXIS it is wide open to accidents). As other reviewers already mentioned, it has its own design problems. Uses AAA batteries, why not chargeable thru USB like the controller, or why you need a dongle to connect it to your PS3? Also you wont be able to enjoy enjoy the predictive text functionality which is faster for short messages. Overall a nice little add-on for your PS3 that does the job.
