It's true (as stated by some excentric reviewers) that this game doesnt follow the same style as its predecessors. No there aren't any police chaces nor is there a free roam option on the city streets. If they wanted to buy a game expecting that then they should have bought another copy of 'Carbon'. This is a new game and assuming you know what you are getting is foolish.
The older games did have a certain charm but the series is called 'Need for Speed' not 'Hurry up and get away from the police'!
This game has plenty of speed. The story has a way of making you feel it is a realistic 'next step' for a street racing offender.
The ability to tune and style the car makes for a much better 'Garage' experience. In the previous games you could just slap a body kit on your ride and lower the suspension to make it look better. Doing that on this game will have effects like the aero dynamics and handling of the car. It isn't all about looks. This appeals to me personally as my hobby is to modify high performance cars.
In my opinion any fan of the series, like myself, will not be dissapointed in this title. Dont let the negative reviews hold you back.

I consider myself quite a connoisseur when it comes to racing games, having owned or at least played nigh on EVERY racer on the PS2 and now on the PS3.
I have to say this is one of the best racers to date. It has everything from realistic curcuit racing (although only 6cars but believe me you get matched up pretty well and the AI doesnt do the Gran Turismo thing of 'We have a set range of AI cars but if you have a 1,000,000bhp skyline well let you race that'. Oh No, you have a 180beeatchpee's so well put in a couple of 200bhps maybe a 150bhp' etc etc (you get the idea!).
The Drag racing is SUPERB! much better than previous incrnations and the ONLY complete Drag racing expreience I have ever encountered on A PlayStation. Long gone are the drag races up a busy road, now you get to do a burnout at the start to put heat into your tyres followed by either a 'Christmas Tree' or 'Young Lady' to get you going.
Drifting as ever from any NFS is Awsome, Power defo isnt key this time round its much more realistic in that sense.
The control of the car is on a par with TOCA3 which in my opinion WAS the best game for handling, its is a bit of a bum that you cant have the traditional controller setting for racing but to be honest I have found adapting to the R1, L1 style pretty easy.
It is a fairly technical racing game so if you are wanting something you can jus pick up and play with the 'i'll jus drive flat out and hit the barriers' approach then its probably not of you. But if you want to feel like your taking part in a True to life 'modern' racing event you cant go wrong
The whole world of racing that NFS Pro Street hooks you into is intoxicating. You get the sense of actually taking part in a real event.
All I can say is BUY it you wont be disapointed.

Why do you people give this 2 or 1 stars, its by far the best NFS because you get the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 and the new mode Grip Race and Drag is back, is that good enough for you?! 5 stars, pure enjoyment!!!

i risked buying this game after some of the negative feedback posted and am glad i did.
i didnt have high hopes but i can tell you now, wow this game just totaly blew me away the cars are good the graphics are amazing and the cars handle like the real thing,(not some arcade piece of junk).
And if you have any nous about you the controls are easily mastered and in my oppinion give the game a whole new demention.
if you are a kid who is full of hormones and has nothing to do with them and you still belive you can travel at 100milles an hour into a hairpin and stay on the road you will most probally hate this game. if you are some one who genuinly enjoys driving and like fast cars (note not the magazine) then get this game it will blow your mind, i promise

First off i'd like to say that usually a software house says that the game is the best ever with lots of improvements... Sometimes it's true, sometimes it's just publicity.
Regarding this game and i've seen and read about it, my opinion is clear. This might be the best car game (until Gran Turismo 5 is out, of course!) on the PS3...
They have obviously worked hard on the graphics, but the best improvement is the car physics. They have worked insanely hard to make the cars behave just like they would in reality.
Lets hope is all that and more! This is really going to be a huge game, and the online modes give it an infinite life!
