5 out of 5 stars This game is truly amazing   June 6, 2008

I read the two-star review below, and I had to write my own review.
I cannot understand how anyone can objectively 'review' a game in so few lines and totally ignore the entire game / experience. Sorry, but it's not an accurate review.

Here's my take on this;

I'm not a large FPS fan, couldn't really get into Resistance, etc. and the whole genre for me is a little stale. So I downloaded the demo, and oh my God, it's just worlds apart from anything I've played FPS-wise before. The graphics are amazing, they have a gritty look, that really fits with the theme and style of the game, as for the sound, with the explosions and muffled effect you get when something blows up near you is really impressive.
The demo mission itself was exciting, you can drive vehicles, go into buildings (that you can totally destroy) and the whole experience was breathtaking. To give the game 2 stars because you can't parachute drop - what? How is that a review? Substance please. The A.I. was really impressive, and the different weapons had a brilliant feel to them. I was ducking for cover behind a fence, only to have it blown up by the enemy and then finished off by an enemy gunner in a window. Brilliant.
The multiplayer itself is again, no lag, so deep and interesting, different classes you can be, fixing vehicles, support, assault, recon, demolition. This game is going to be BIG!
I can't fault it and I never thought I'd hear myself saying, I can't wait for this FPS to come out!
Brilliant stuff.

5 out of 5 stars THIS IS AN AMAZING GAME   June 6, 2008

I wasnt expecting this game to be so good, ignore the two idiots who said it was bad, its truly amazing. I am a huge fan of call of duty 4 on ps3 and you cant compare the two. For starters call of duty online has small maps and not many people in the sever this is for close combat. battlefield on the other hand is a massive game, tanks, helicopters, jeeps, boats, everything. You cant compare CALL OF DUTY with BATTLEFIELD. there two very different games. i know i will be buying this game as it is truly amazing.

People put a vast amount of work into making something like this and then someone comes on and slaps on a one-star rating for a completely spurious reason (you can't crouch...). I downloaded it on Saturday and gave it a thorough test over the weekend. Just to answer the Call of Duty 4 question, both are superb; best to think of Call of Duty 4 as an outstanding simulation of an infantryman's experience on the ground and in the firing line. Battlefield is more a real-time strategy game from the ground eye view - they do similar but distinct things and I admire both. BC is shaping up to be absolutely brilliant. The graphics are great (though not quite COD quality) and the destructible environments are done cleverly. They don't just blow up, it's realistic. They also give added depth and variety to both types of play. The maps are huge and sprawling, multiplayer is a more thoughtful and strategic exercise where attacks take planning. A well co-ordinated assault conducted over the headphones would be a marvel to enjoy. Vehicles are great, though I found the choppers a real struggle to control and will take time. Actually, I had a bit of a curve on the main controls - why they can't all map the basic FPS buttons the same across the board... it must be just stubbornness. Single player is involving, with many different ways of going about things and a huge array of weapons, vehicles and tactics. Drawbacks - I miss BF2's Hotswap (though this makes a completely different game) and the precision of aiming and shooting doesn't seem as good as COD (though this could be as I've yet to find a weapon with decent sights) and agreed, the loss of parachutes is a detraction. Otherwise, this is the best FPS demo I've ever seen

5 out of 5 stars FULL GAME REVIEW   July 1, 2008

(Background info...)I pre-ordered this game and have been playing since i took delivery on first day of release. I had also downloaded and played the demo and have played both online and the single player story mode, i am also an avid player of Call of Duty 4....

(Review...)This game has been designed around the fact that unlike ANY other game on the market (of this class!!) - you get to BLOW UP STUFF!! Yes you name it you can blow it up and my god that make this game far more fun than anything you would have ever played in this genre.

I have been waiting ever since i played my first 'first person shooter' where you can effect the surroundings when you play. Don't worry about a sniper camping out in a roof top, just blow the roof off! He'll either die in the process or you will see a rather sheepish sniper legging it out the back door for more cover.

The single player story line is not likely to rock your world, its pretty straight forward, throughout all the maps you collect gold bars and weapons that can be dotted around the map, but this is secondary to the main focus of the game which is BLOW STUFF UP!

The vehicles are great fun, flying the helicopter is a bit tricky and not as much fun to fly as in the other Battlefield games but it makes up for it when you get to level an entire village from the air!

In single player; objectives show as a red triangle - how you reach the triangle is sometimes up to you with big maps to roam about in and cause mayhem along the way, taking down trees and fences as you hurtle along.

I would never give up Call of Duty 4 for this game as the playing styles are very different - i do not think these game compete with each other at all - if anything you need to have them both as the play styles are very different.

One last thing - In some places the intelligence of the bots are non existent in standard mode, don't play easy mode - you will be bored senseless with no real challenge! And in a few places the game seemed to get confused when you respawn - on one of the single player maps i was protecting a tank, died and when i repsawned the tank i was protecting had turned into an enemy tank that could not be destroyed - doh!

Great game - go get it and blow up stuff!! it's what you were born to!

5 out of 5 stars One of the best FPS of 2008   July 4, 2008

Battlefield: Bad Company is one of those games that just gets it right when it comes to making the gameplay fun and addictive and offers so much variety in a huge sandbox world. The single player campaign is a decent length, the graphics are pretty sweet an dsome of the motion capture is the best I have seen in a game yet. The characters are likeable guys, you don't get to really know a great deal about them you just know that you like them and they will make you laugh.

The single player campaign takes these four guys on a journey to find some Gold and offers diverse and very large battlefields with some really nice graphics, an array of vehicles, weapons, special abilities and completely destructable buildings to mould into your own game. Each and every time you restart a mission it can be different as the destructable environments really change the way you can play a shooter taking away the feeling of linear settings and a restricted way of fighting. Choose from vehicles, some cool perks and a great selection of weapons and just have fun blasting your way through the battlefield and killing everyone in sight, it's just so much fun.

Multiplayer is absolutely superb and I cannot bring myself to get off it, I'm completely addicted. 8 massive sand-box diverse maps with up to 24 players with the mode Gold Rush is a load of fun and the amount of trophies and unlockables is something else. This game really rivals Call of Duty 4 online and I personally prefer it just for the variety this game has to offer in comparison.

BF: BC is a fun game with great graphics, funny guys, amazing weapons, vehicles and destructable environments and other shooters should really follow in the footsteps of this game because it is certainly doing something right. 10/10 Fantastic game!

ps. Gold Edition comes in a cool tin-like case with extra videos and weapons. Worth the purchase if you ask me because this game is a great addition to anyone's collection.
