This game is so much fun August 7, 2008 7 out of 9 found this review helpful
I downloaded the demo a while back, not really sure what to expect, as this game has had some mixed previews from the media. All i can say is WOW!
I've played through it over 15 times now, this game is just bags of fun. You can select one of five classes to play as, each specializing in a different style of combat. You have a melee specialist, an air combat specialist, a ranged/gun specialist, the archetypal tank and the healer class.
It is an action RPG, more akin to say diablo than a God of War. It's a loot collectors dream, you can find and upgrade weapons, armour, craft runes and charms. Spec out skill trees, to further specialise in certain combat techniques, give armour bonuses, attack speed ect.
On top of all that the combat is viseral and deep. It seems slightly simplistic at first, a case of just pointing the right stick at an enemy to kill them. However once you learn the advanced combat moves and start linking combos together, there really isn't anything else like it. It has a bit of a learning curve to master the advanced combat though, but once you do you will be slaughtering Goblins like a pinball God on speed.
This game is going to be one of the best of 2008 IMO, if you haven't already, download the demo and give it a try for youself.
Diamond in the rough August 9, 2008 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I downloaded the demo of this over XBL and I must admit the first time I played it I wasn't sure about it. But then once I got my head around the controls (they differ significantly from the standard setup most 3rd person games use), I really got into it! I've played through th demo about a dozen times now using both the Berserker and the Champion using various weapon and Skill tree combinations, IT ROCKS! IF you're after the standard 'run around and shoot things' kind of game then maybe this isn't for you, however, if you want a game with oodles of depth and an intersting story, (I can't say great as I haven't played through the whole game), they go for this, you won't be dissapointed. As with most games, if in doubt play the demo and make up your own mind, everyone is different after all. HAPPY GAMING!! :-)
Have to disagree August 7, 2008 10 out of 12 found this review helpful
Obviously I don't want to write a review before the game is out, as even the demo can't give you enough info to review a 40 hour game. However, I feel it necessary to say I had a completley different experience to the other reviewer. I found the combat system lots of fun, its a little tough to get used to at first because its so different, but once you've got the hang of it I found it very intuative, plus it does make you feel really god-like, as your character sort of slides towards whatever enemy your pointing at, so you kill one guy then swoop across the screen to another, flip him into the air, jump up then shoot him into the floor. I would also have to disagree about the graphics, I thought they were very good, and though they were a bit framy at times, I would point out that betas are seperate entities to the finished game, and have to be built in isolation, and obviously the SK team wouldn't waste time polishing the FR on a demo. SK has a very good reputation, so I'd be surprised if they fell down on something as fundamental as frame rate. None of this really indicates whether you should get the game, but I don't think I'm in a position to write a full review yet, I just wanted to counterbalance the other point made so that people who do not have access to live and the demo would not be scared away.
Looks good....... August 13, 2008 Although it's just a demo, what I have played has made up my mind to buy this game. The controls are tough to grasp at first, but after a few minutes I had adjusted and was thoroughly enjoying the game. Graphics are impressive as is the sound and for under 30 on Amazon it's a steal (especially if it's true that it takes 40 hours to complete!!)!! I recommend it, though I suggest you download and play the demo off XBox Live first.Too Human (Xbox 360)
a demo review only. August 24, 2008 very nice graphics :) and lots of fun to be had. reviewing a demo is always awkward but if the game is good, the limited demo should be all you need to get a feeling for the finished product. As for the 'bad control system' others have mentioned, I disagree. The controls were fine. As with all titles you have to take time to adjust to new control styles :) Don't fear change guys. Or would you prefer a Nintendo style 2 button affair? I cant help thinking that bad gamers always blame the so called 'bad controls' :) lol
