It's easy to see why there was so much fighting amongst the console manufacturers to try and make this game a format exclusive. Where early launch titles may have disappointed this game not only looks like a next generation game but it plays like it too. Taken at face value the story casts you as an Arabic fighter in 1191, out to assassinate the nine Western leaders of the Third Crusade. There is more to the story than that though making it more than simple historical adventure it first seems.Since it's developed by many of the same team behind Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, it's no surprise to find the game using many of the same ideas. With the bold claim that you can climb on or over anything in the game world that sticks out more than two inches, this allows incredible freedom of movement, with a style of acrobatics heavily influenced by Parkour/free running. The game also innovates in terms of combat, with each of the face buttons controlling a different area of the body, rather like a marionette. As such one button controls the feet, one your open hand, one your weapon hand and the other your head. As an assassin stealth plays an important role in the game too, but here it's often a case of hiding in plain sight as you mill around inside large crowds of people. Everyone will react to you realistically though, so if you go around pushing people out of the way, or even killing them, the crowd will react and report you. With stunning graphics and genuinely innovative gameplay this is destined to be one of the most important releases of the year.

So I've just completed the fourth assassination and I am having soooooo much fun with this game. Enough has been written about the visuals, and indeed much has been written about the lack of variety. Well to me this game has more depth in it's little finger than many others have in the whole game. Repetitive? Halo? Doom? Every FPS ever written? In an era of endless sequels, FPS's and war games, where the games industry seems stuck in a rut with no creativity or original thought, I give full marks to Ubisoft for trying to do something new. The story, like the overall pace of the game, unfolds slowly. It seems well written and thought out, and the dialogue and voice acting is well done. The scope and attention to detail within the cities blows me away, and I can explore for hours.
There are valid criticisms - there is no point to collecting flags or killing Templars, other than for personal satisfaction and the sense of completeness. The combat can be awkward at times, and there could be more variety in the different investigation missions. However I don't feel these detract too much from what is a very compelling experience.
I guess I like games that don't try to rush me through in a few hours, and for 50 I appreciate it. I can't wait to see what AC2 can bring, with more time to focus on the gameplay instead of creating a truly world-class engine.

Due to the hype I wasn't sure quite what to expect. I'm so used to games flopping after the big build up, however, I've been pleasantly surprised.
Firstly, and just to get it out of the way, this is a visually beautiful game. The characters and settings are lovingly created and really do shine and draw you into the game. The graphics are also backed up by some truly stunning animation which works flawlessly with your character and those around you.
The game is huge and the pace differs, leaving you to also explore and enjoy the cities at your own pace if required. The missions are fairly similar but enjoyable, when you get discovered and guards are alerted the race to hide and escape is always thrilling.
There is a clever future/past storyline throughout the game, it's clever it's stylish and it's very good fun. I don't want to spoil the story by giving too much away, so instead all I will say is that in my miond this is a good buy!

i have had this game since the very first day it came out and it is brilliant! And no there are not any bugs in it, it works perfectly and even if you are not a big fan of medieval based fighting games i would still buy it just for the unbeleivable graphics.

Well what can i say about this game that so many others have. It is with out doubt one of the best ps3 games ever.
Basically you are an assassin and go around killing 9 people. OKAY THE GAME MIGHT SEEM A BIT REPETITVE BUT IS STILL IMMENSE NEVER THE LESS.
Good points
Setting- Great knocking pepole out the way
Scenery- beautiful
Graphics- some of the bset graphics i have ever seen
Gameplay- fighting, running, tension, climbing, killing
Bad points
Fighting moves very basic
Quite short game
Repetitive
Overall a great game. well worth 35

Before I write this review I would like to point out that I don't have a PS3 (I will have one in about a week or so allthough I've got the game).
Now, on to the review. I've only been able to play this game in test zones in game shops, so that's the only time I've been able to play this game so I go to shops and play it for about an hour, by now you must be thinking "This guy is weird, he goes to shops just to play a game and doesn't bother buying anything." This just explains my lust for the game, it's that good. I do appreciate that Ubisoft Montreal payed attention to historical accuracy all of the targets in this game are real people. Now I have to admit that the game gets a bit repetetive with all the side missions but this adds to the real authenticity of the assassinations, I mean if you were going to kill someone you'd have to gather information about them so that you know where they are. So right now I'm gonna get onto the three best bits of the game: the story, the gameplay (combat and parkour) and the graphics, so first of all the story: I know just a little bit about the story cos I watch Assassin's Creed videos on YouTube but I don't watch the story bits and I don't want to tell you what I know but I will praise the guy (or girl) who thought up the story. Second part (I'll start with the combat first) at first the ennemies are a quite easy to beat ennemies when you gain the abilities to pull off really counter kills and combos (that are quite hard to do, it takes a lot of skill and a lot of timing but they're really cool, trust me). But when you get more into the game, soldiers start to get more skillfull and they're more likely to do physical counter attacks on you. Now I'll get onto the subject of the parkour in this game. Basically I love it, it's trying something different which is this game's speciality and it's so fluent and perfectley executed from one jump to the other. Finally, the graphics: they're very good, voice acting: very good and everything: very good. In my opinion this is one of the great titans of the next generation of gaming and anyone who hates this game can go and get a game that they'll enjoy and stop bad mouthing this game because it really doesn't deserve it.
