Product Description Daniel Craig, Eva Green, Claudio Santamaria, Jesper Christensen, Judi Dench, Jeffrey Wright

The most successful invigoration of a cinematic franchise since Batman Begins, Casino Royale offers a new Bond identity. Based on the Ian Fleming novel that introduced Agent 007 into a Cold War world, Casino Royale is the most brutal and viscerally exciting James Bond film since Sean Connery left Her Majesty's Secret Service. Meet the new Bond; not the same as the old Bond. Daniel Craig gives a galvanising performance as the freshly minted double-0 agent. Suave, yes, but also a "blunt instrument," reckless and possessed with an ego that compromises his judgment during his first mission to root out the mastermind behind an operation that funds international terrorists. In classic Bond film tradition, his global itinerary takes him to far-flung locales, including Uganda, Madagascar, the Bahamas (that's more like it) and Montenegro, where he is pitted against his nemesis in a poker game, with hundreds of millions in the pot. The stakes get even higher when Bond lets down his armour by falling in love with Vesper (Eva Green), the ravishing banker's representative fronting him the money. For longtime fans of the franchise, Casino Royale offers some retro kicks. Bond wins his iconic Aston Martin at the gaming table, and when a bartender asks if he wants his martini "shaken or stirred," he disdainfully replies, "Do I look like I give a damn?". There's no Moneypenny or "Q," but Dame Judi Dench is back as the exasperated M who, one senses, admires Bond's "bloody cheek." A Bond film is only as good as its villain, and Mads Mikkelsen as Le Chiffre, who weeps blood, is a sinister dandy. From its punishing violence and virtuoso action sequences to its romance, Casino Royale is a Bond film that, in the words of one character, 'makes you feel it', particularly during an excruciating torture sequence. Double-0s, Bond observes early on, "have a short life expectancy". But with Craig, there is new life in the old franchise yet, as well as genuine anticipation for the next one when, at last, the signature James Bond theme kicks in following the best last line ever in any Bond film. To quote Goldie Hawn in Private Benjamin, "now I know what I've been faking all these years". --Donald Liebenson

High Intensity in High Definition June 26, 2007 12 out of 13 found this review helpful
What is probably the best James Bond film is a fantastic introduction to the amazing quality of the Blu Ray High-Definition system. Its almost worth splashing out on a player and HD screen for this movie alone. The quality is truly stunning - you can even see the individual hairs on the mongoose in the fight scene with the cobra. Every shot is a joy, every close up revealing and, with uncompressed audio, the chase scene at the beginning and the collapsing building at the end made my living room move beneath me. In terms of the acting, I think Daniel Craig is the best Bond and Mads Mikkelsen is the perfect villian as Le Chiffre. In case you haven't realised, I liked the film and loved the Blu Ray technology !
Surprisingly good October 2, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
When I heard Daniel Craig was the new Bond I dont think I was alone in gasping with horror!! However, that highlighted my ignorance to his superb acting ability and the latest installment in the Bond franchise delivers superbly. On Blue Ray it is just even better provided you have a good quality TV. As for the film, it has grit, style, great writing and is more in the tone of how Bond was originally written and conceptualised. This being before it was taken and moulded into a more palletable figure for Hollywood at the time. Needless to say theres plenty of action, great acting and its well worth buying. I am not a huge fan of Bond but I am compelled to appreciate the quality of this film. Buy it!!
Very Quickly April 30, 2007 13 out of 17 found this review helpful
There's a reason why Sony gave 500,000 copies of this free with the PS3. Once you've seen Blu-Ray you realise you're not going to buy the DVD version of what you want if there is a Blu-Ray version. My mind was blown by the amazing definition, most noticeable in the beautiful computer-generated introduction. Blu-Ray is the real deal.
And the film - well if you were silly enough not to go see this in the cinema - it's well worth getting. One of the best Bond films, Daniel Craig a revelation and a return to the true ethos of Bond. No silly gadgets, no ridiculous one-liners, just fantastic dialogue, intense drama and a suprising feeling of wanting to buy one of those all-in-one casino sets. If you've got a Blu-Ray player get this film. If you've not got a Blu-Ray player, get one!
CLASS BROUGHT BACK! August 1, 2007 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
Daniel Craig is the ultimate bond, he has brought back what Bond should be violent, charming and damn right cool. Packed with chases, fights, hot girls and cool cars this is a must see. Getting rid of the gadgets were back to Sean Connery country giving Bond a better and bigger impression allowing Bond to become what he truly is 'The ultimate Man'.
Throughout the film there are is never a break in action, even the poker game is exciting. The film takes place in Madagascar, Bahamas, Miami, MonteNegro and Venice allowing a different environment for Bond to do his thing, cause havoc.
This is a true action packed film giving everyone back what they want in bond. A must see for EVERYONE! The blu-ray film is of a much better quality than the DVD, you would not believe, it is so bright and sharp. With blu-ray this allows the film to reach it's full potential.
