Product Description Designed specifically to take advantage of the latest technologies Tomb Raider: Underworld represents a new advancement in exploration-based gameplay.
Amazon.co.uk Review The first lady of gaming returns in Tomb Raider - Underworld with her deepest and darkest adventure yet. Ostensibly searching for the mythical hammer of the Norse god Thor, the real draw of the game is exploring the underworlds of multiple different cultures. A pair of panthers make an uncomfortable safety net | When you're a tomb raider, exploring ancient tombs is all in a day’s work | Lara’s pistols are no match for the kraken | The Mediterranean level includes a huge area for swimming | The basics of the game are classic Tomb Raider, as you explore the trap-filled interiors of ancient ruins using Lara’s famed acrobatic skills (and dual action pistols). From an underwater temple guarded by a giant octopus-like kraken to ancient Mayan structures in the South American jungle, she makes Indiana Jones look even older. All of the levels are much larger than in previous games and far more interactive. You'll leave footprints in the sand and find all the scenery fully destructable. Every puzzle has multiple solutions, and the hand-to-hand combat system has been completely revamped. A new 3D map system also helps to ensure you never get lost so that you can concentrate on saving the world. Key Features - Dream vacation: Travel the world in search of ancient artefacts, from the steaming-hot jungles of Mexico to the frozen Arctic, from the coast of Thailand to the depths of the Mediterranean Sea.
- Think like Lara: An interactive, non-linear game world means anything that it looks like you should be able to pick up and use (or destroy) you can.
- Bettering Bond: An all new grappling hook, sonar map, scuba gear, a range of new weapons, and Lara’s trusty motorbike make her the best equipped adventurer in gaming.
- Help on demand: Receive as much or as little help as you want, from gentle nudges in the right direction to a full explanation of what you need to do next.
- Behind the scenes: All of Lara’s animations in the game have been fully motion captured from Olympic gymnast Heidi Moneymaker. Her voice is that of Spooks actress Keeley Hawes.

I have played the first 3 tomb raiders and anniversary. I went to the show "What stuff" in Excel London, Tomb raider - UNDERWORLD had its own stall. on Xbox 360.Not PS3. After playing Anniversary the step up in graphics is fantastic. The Demo on display was a Thailand/ Cambodia level. Visually stunning in 1080p. graphics, I can see the splashes when she kicks and the vegetation of the level is realy good, all the grass and plants move with the wind and her motion. The tomb raider model moves like a panther. she looks better than ever.( possibly her waist is over skinny, a little exagerated by the boys in Eidos, trying to create the perfect sexy goddess.I sometimes fell those boys should try going out with real women.) Game play , hmmm levels are much more open and the controls take getting used to. in fact the sea level is immense you can swim for hours rite over to china and back. you can swim underwater also to the same distance. The change of the controls is fiddly, the gun aiming sytem can be either auto or you can aim cod4 style. I am used to PS2/ps3 so Xbox 360 controls have always felt clunky in my hand. Jumping from pillar to pillar is quite a precision thing for me in this game. they add and add more moves each game and can overcomplex things. To me Tomb raider 2 and 3 got the controls just right.I think the controls here are over sensitive. The problem is I feel , like tomb raider anniversary they may have made this game a little to difficult, like anniversary, hence the last levels are virtually impossible to beat. perhaps I am just a tad unco-ordinated. couple this with hard complex controls, this game has the potential to over challenge and ultimately frustrate. This is my only negative point. Otherwise get ready for her next adventure, I know I will !!!

Without wishing to give too much more away about the contents of the Coastal Thailand level, other highlights of our demo included using Lara's grapple to rappel down a wall, as well as noticing for the first time that Lara gets increasingly and convincingly dirty as you play. Another highlight had us solving a puzzle involving two giant statues that was epic in a way that not nearly enough puzzles have been since the first Tomb Raider game. Managing to survive our first ever "adrenaline moment" was pretty exciting because, at first, we were convinced that it was an elaborate death scene that we had no control over. Rather, adrenaline moments will be replacing the super actions from recent games. The main difference is simply that in the new set pieces, you retain full control of Lara, whereas in previous games, you've been prompted to press a sequence of buttons in something resembling a rhythm-game mechanic.

Dear reviewers
I am looking for a challenging experience. I don't care about graphics, or effects. But I wouldn't mind good graphics.
I am looking for some challenges, tomb raider on the PS1 was so hard and it was really hard to get through the levels which made it very interesting and made you want to keep playing. its always satisfying when you find a hidden liver, a hidden rock to push. I want to spend time lost, curious, trying to find a way out etc. That is what tomb raider ont the playstation 1 meant to me and what it will always mean...getting lost and curious. I want to experience this but am not sure, so please any other reviewers who already bought the game, is it too easy? Or is it good intellectual stimulation? So I am looking for hard puzzles and challenges
sorry to ruin the review page with a question rather than a review.
LARA IS BACK November 23, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I had waited months for tomb raider to come out. Now that I have got it I am impressed. The story is set more or less straight after Tomb raider legend. Lara is trying to find out more about avalon so she can discover the truth on the whereabouts of her mother. There are a few surprises along the way but nothing spectacular. It does keep you on the edge of your seat though. The levels are huge and there is normally a puzzle that you have to figure out. It will take ages because the areas are so big. As for Lara she has loads of unique moves that make the game look and feel like a next gen game. But its not just Lara that makes it next gen. Its the environments and the whole atmosphere of the game. But I feel as if all crystal dynamics have focused on is the environments. One thing that I don't like is the combat system. There really wasn't any need for it. There aren't even any boss battles which dulls the challenge. You probably will hardly ever use adrenaline mode because there is barely no use for it. Lastly, I don't appreciate the extras menu. A few measly concepts and storyboards for all the hard work and effort you have gone to to find the treasure is ridiculous but it is worth finding the treasure for the thrill of it. Overall it is an enjoyable game with stunning visuals, spectacular environments and a thrilling plot but it also feels linear tiresome and despite what crystal dynamics had promised it wasn't what I expected. It is too much the same to previous tomb raiders. After the amazing tomb raider anniversary I was expecting this to be on the same level as it, but unfortunatley is isn't. Its a marvelous adventure but areas could be improved next time.
Lara Croft back with a bang November 25, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
After TRL which was fun but very dissapointing and TRA which was much more enjoyable and a true Tomb Raider game i had mixed feelings for Underworld. I can say after purchasing and playing the game im much happier and that this game despite its flaws is a true Tomb Raider game. I will state the good things about the game first.
GOOD
The levels were HUGE and i loved how there were different paths to take and collecting items for puzzles classic style. The graphics were excellent and the lighting was really somthing. The story was short but got the job done and im glad the whole mother story is finished. Lara also acted more like Lara :) Ledges were not as obvious this time making me think more on where to go. The puzzles were all different and pretty fun but quite simple. The enemies were all varied and the animals had great AI. I loved the options to turn of reticules and hints and the player tailoring was a great addition.
BAD
The camera was slightly annoying at some points. Quite a few glitches here and there that could have been sorted. Human AI really was bad. Hardly any traps in the game :( No replay level? what were they thinking? Lots of secrets to find but only measly artwork to unlock. The game felt slightly short.
All in all though im pretty satisfied with the game if it were a bit longer, had more puzzles and traps and the glitches and camera were sorted id rate it 5 stars. This is what Tomb Raider should be though and i hope the next game works on the problems to make a much more epic Tomb Raider :) One other thing i have to add is that this game should never be compared to Uncharted thats a whole different game more action id say. Its a shame for people who have played Legend as their first TR as they probably get the impression that its more action orientated.
