Having played the game at a Midway press confrence August 6, 2008 7 out of 10 found this review helpful
Having played the game at a Midway press conference, all I can say is I was very impressed.
The gameplay is fluid, and light years ahead of the Smack down vs. Raw series. This game is going to be the best wrestling game since No Mercy on the N64.
The new options are fantastic especially the Ultimate X match, this is by far the best type of match I have ever played on a wrestling game. Lots of the TNA roster put a lot of effort into building this game, both through motion capture (which is obvious from how good the game looks) to the drawing board stage. These young guys like the champion Joe, and AJ Styles are hardcore gamer so know what gamers want, and their influence is clear and certainly paid off.
I would highly recommend this title, even based on the early version I played. I would recommend it no only to TNA fans, and not just WWE fans either (even though there is a lot for you as well with familiar faces such as Kurt Angle, Christian, Booker T, Rhino, Scott Steiner, The Dudley boys (Team 3D), Jeff Jarret, Sting, Christy Hemme and Tomko in the game) But to any fans of fighting games in general. You could even go as far to recommend it to all gamers, even if the fighting genre is not your think you may wish to check out this title because it really is a breath of fresh air, and an all round good game.
You can be confident it will be money ell spent, happy grappling.

TNA V WWE September 7, 2008 There has been so much hype for this game and it looks really good it sounds better than svr but lets wait and see if it is then svr will have to get better which is only a good thing for wrestling game fans !
Played on US release date....WOW! September 11, 2008 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
THIS GAME IS AWESOME! It goes back to the no mercy/virtual pro wrestling 2 on N64, the graphics are better than i was expecting from the screen shots, and the mo-cap definetly shows and its so fluid and smooth. Theres no sense of the smackdown vs raw animations restricting you. Now after hearing this, your probably like...why did it only get 4 stars not 5 (it got 5 outta 5 for fun so its gotta be good).
Theres only 1 or 2 bad things, the AI is great...until you get to hard at which point they appear to be able to kick outta anything until you TRULY make them near dead, which kinda adds some spice i suppose, but it looses some of the realism. 2nd and only other gripe, and i reckon that its probably just me and not the game...shooting into the ropes can be disorientating as hell, i guess il have to wait til the 12th to get used to it. BUT THIS GAME IS THE DOGS....I CANT THINK OF A WORD THEY'LL LET ME PUT HERE, BUT ITS AWESOME. I love my mate's cousin for bringing it with him, just wish he'd leave it lol.
Total Nonstop Action! September 12, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Well, release dayn came and when I was out and about I thought I would go ahead and buy this game because not only do I love TNA but I love wrestling games ever since the days of N64. So I got home and set it up and my first impression was "wow!". The graphics are supperb and the in-ring action is brilliant. Much more realistic than SVR and it just looks and feels like a real match. However, it did take me a while to get use to the controls having played smackdown (vs. Raw) for the past 7 years and on PS2. I have not tried the story mode yet but I hear it is pretty good.
However, apart from the graphics, realism and sheer wow-factor of having a TNA wrestling game (finally!) there are a few down sides. The create a wrestler is quite disapointing, nothing on the SVR series. There are not as many options for clothing and you don't really get a say on what moves you have (in comparison to SVR), you obviously get to pick a finisher but the really annoying thing is that all the decent moves are locked. Now heres why. In SVR you play through the carreer mode and unlock bonus superstars like the rock and Stone Cold, TNA is exactly the same but the catch is you have to unlock the whole damn roster! Unlike SVR you can only play as I think 10 superstars until you go through story mode and unlock other characters. Which is slightly disapointing.
So apart from having to unlock half the roster and the disapointing create a wrestler mode it is a very good. The most realistic wrestling game I've ever played! c
