Awesome fun November 2, 2008 17 out of 27 found this review helpful
Ok, so, i'm one of the few who have actually bought the game, and can give a real opinion instead of just mindlessly jumping on the bandwagon.
the game is awesome, the campaign mode can be played co-operatively with a friend to lend a real "epic" feel to the game, all the units have secondary functions meaning its a micro management haven, the games balanced aroudn small balanced squads, and so rushes of a single type of unit won't work like in previous instalments.
the games pace is slower, putting more importance on being tactful and efficient rather than just going all out all the time, a great game.
to note, the limit via DRM is a 5 ACTIVATION limit, meaning you can install and uninstall on the same pc 100 times if you want, so long as you dont format your harddrive or remove the securom reg keys ( which do nothign but hodl the license info) then you won't waste activations, and even if you do somehow go over the limit? EA will give you more.
anyone with any common sense will read into the DRM situation like i have, and find the whole thing nothing more than a farce, a bunch of scaremongers talking rubbish about pc slowdowns (it doesn't, and being a benchmark freak i'd know if it did), Ring 3 registry progs talking to Ring 0 ( impossible / no proof exists of this ever happening), DVD burning software not working (no proven link between securom, and only occurrs randomly, most machines wont have a problem), and see that all it means is you don't need the dvd in a drive everytime you want to play it.
don't hide behind excuses, if you want the game, then get it, the very vast majority of normal users will not have any trouble with the DRM aspects, and overall it is a brilliant game.
red alert 3 November 3, 2008 7 out of 11 found this review helpful
Never mind the drm software just recieved the game and what a corker online has been much improved and multiplayer games are much more enjoyable. all you people not buying the game you must be mad. If you use all your activations just ring up ea and they will supply you with as many activations as you need as long as you have a legit copy. It is only to try and stop piracy if you have spent 30 quid on their game you are not a pirate!!! and wont be treat like one.
DRM blah blah...who cares? November 4, 2008 9 out of 20 found this review helpful
I was under the impression that this was a review page for the Red Alert 3...not DRMs. Maybe i was mistaken. Having actully played the game (not giving it a bad review and then sying i am boyotting it), I can say that i really enjoyed it. I think its probably my favourite of all the C&Cs.
Its got great gameplay and is fun as it doesn't take itself too seriously, but i am not saying that there is nothing for serious RTS gamers. It has a great cast of characters that are fun to battle alongside (or against), cool graphics and a fun campaign to play. Unless some RTS it actually focuses on the strategy aspect. One of my favourite features is that the campaign is fully co-operative which is something i have wanted for while (instead of only being able to skirmish with friends, you can complete objectivs together...adding a little more strategy to online play). Overall i really liked this game and will reccomend it to anyone.
So those of you who are deciding to 'vote with you wallet' as you feel like 'cash cows'...everthing has its price.
DRM Paranoia October 28, 2008 17 out of 44 found this review helpful
I'm sorry for reviewing a game that hasn't been released yet, however I think some of these issues below need to be resolved.
1) DRM isn't a virus/spyware/malware.
2) DRM Does not look through your personal information or credit card details.
3) DRM cannot find where you live or see what you're doing.
4) DRM only limits the number of times you can install a game and requires you to use the disc to play it (you can play games without their discs). If you use over the number of limited installs, you will need to call up and ask for a new license which may or may not cost you money.
This is merely an annoying precaution in a pathetic attempt to limit piracy. If you feel that buying a second license because you have lent your game out or have installed it 6+ times is not worth your 40 or so, then don't buy the game.
All you need to do to find out what DRM actually is, is research (not biased research that is). Paranoia about spyware and "malware" as I read below, should not put off customers like it almost did to me. Five installs is plenty for me, I'll be buying this game. Do the research before being disuaded by reviews such as below.
Stop moaning and Buy It. November 1, 2008 12 out of 32 found this review helpful
First of all and most important EA Well done in making / being part of a fantastic game.
There is to much negative feedback about this game everywhere. DRM is the source of evil, bla bla bla.
If you don't want to get a game that protects from hackers and illegal down loaders then tough. But stop putting the game down.
I'm a keen fan of C&C, I have had every game and if EA want to put a programme to protect it's OWN product, who's to say that their wrong. EA did put a good statement that only 2% of their customers will moan about this, and most of that 2% will be trying to hack the DRM and down load the game for free. I HOPE YOU DON'T SUCCEED. First get a life, stop ruining the industry of gaming, your the source of all Evil.
How do you have the right to get things for free.
A great saying "Nothing in life is Free" is starting to not make sense anymore.
In the end I believe people will still buy this game and hopefully rate it high. It deserves to be. The graphics are great, it's fun to play and I'm certain the online part will be more addictable than women are with chocolate.
Guys stop rating it poor because of the DRM, it doesn't make sense to do this and in the end all future games will have this or a similar type of programme. Get with the times and just buy the game and enjoy it.
Sorry for the rant and rave but that's my opinion.
