5 out of 5 stars Wii are having fun now!   May 10, 2007

Had many consoles over the years, played too many games to name, but nothing prepared me for the freshness of the Wii. The simplicity of the control system makes for lots of fun. Wii sports shows there is no need for complicated graphics if you have game play.

In the end that is what the Wii is all about, and isnt that why we buy these things. You can buy a PS3 (I have), a high end PC (guilty again), but graphics alone do not make a great game. Been able to box the tv or swing your vitual bat is simple and so much fun. I am never going to give up my PC, but I think it may see less of me.

The only down side is my arm hurts! and my cheeks will from the smiling.

5 out of 5 stars Wish we'd bought one sooner   June 14, 2008

The graphics may not be pretty by this generations standard but both the console & the Wii sports pack it's bundled with are the most fun any of us have had with games in years ( not only us but our 4 year old daughter & even her grandparents as well as various friends of ours & their kids ) .

The games are all fun & perfect for showing off what makes the Wii so different - when you swing a bat , club , raquet or bowl at the 10 pins for that matter , you really do the movements you would do in real life ( well very nearly :) ) Just make sure you're loved ones are stood well clear when you play . Boxing is great ( our favourite ) you really do have to go for it , controller holding fists swinging ( not pressing buttons actually swinging & jabbing your hands & moving your body ) . If you want to burn calories whilst playing a game this is great . Only real downside is is occasionally doesnt register the odd punch but this is isnt a frequent problem .

Oh and if you lay out for an extra Wiimote - controller ( and a second nunchuk contoller if you want to box your friends it's the only one of these games that uses it ) 2 player is an amazing blast of fun both swinging your arms like dervishes hoping your doing it slightly better than your friend is ( you can have the boxers & other sportsmen/women actually lokk like you ( sort of if you have imagination :) ) via the WiiMii system also fun & easy to do ) .

Edit - Would recommend buying some rechargable AA batteries + charger ( takes 2 at a time the nunchuk plugs into it & shares it's batteries ) for the Wiimote if you dont already have any ( we've found each pair lasts a few days of heavyish use .

5 out of 5 stars Cute, Quirky and Certainly Holding It's Own   September 8, 2007

Skipping beyond the obvious comparison between this generations console graphics I have to say that as a very proud owner of both the Nintendo Wii and Xbox 360 the Wii certainly holds its own.
Packed into it's tiny cute diminutive shell is some awesome game play functions. This has been thought out clearly for the ageing/diminishing population in Japan and has been a success with the older traditionally non-gamers in Europe and the USA.
What it offers is a unique method of console interaction only ever so slightly experienced by the PC enthusiast and delivered this to mass market. There are many people out there who still struggle with the concept that they are controlling the character in video games and that is where the Wii breaks down barriers. You're much considered idiotic spasm when something goes horridly wrong in game play, actually translates to action within your game.
Online multiplayer is definitely lacking but this is not particularly needed since the Wii is intended to be interactive multiplayer with your friends present and not via proxy.

From the beauty of Zelda Twilight Princess to the enjoyable golfing action of Tiger Woods 07 this cute quirky console has won over a scientist/hardcore PC enthusiast and Half Life 2 gamer. Keep an eye out for Metroid Prime 3 Corruption, Nintendo's answer to Halo.

Lastly it is very difficult to compare consoles since they typically deliver different modes of game play to the end user. You as an individual decide what games you like. I have no time for slating one against another.

5 out of 5 stars You wont regret it   January 31, 2007

I'm not going to repeat what many reviews have already said. I'm going to make a quick summary that hopefully describes just what the wii is like.

I'm 18 and have played the 360 and have been amazed at the graphics of games like gears of war.
Me and my mates were really impressed. But that was it. Just good graphics.

However, Everyone I've spoken to who has played it wii has gone BESERCK as soon as I mentioned it.
You see a sort of childish enthusiasm that you had when you first played mario bros in the 90's

This is becuase Nintendo has once again reached a new medium of playing. Whenever this happens, people find a whole new way of enjoying themselves, as opposed to a turbo charged version of a predecesor.

One thing I can guarantee you is that you've NEVER played anything like this before.

thankyou for reading

5 out of 5 stars Great bit of kit, but a disgraceful state of affairs!   December 17, 2006

I was one of the lucky ones that managed to get hold of this fantastic bit of kit when Amazon made some available last week. I am so pleased with it, this to me is next gen gaming. It has put the fun back in to video games, my Wife loves it too (Even though when I said I was buying one it was met with the response "You don't need one of those, why do you need another games console blah blah blah!" She's on it more than me now!!

However I do feel there are some people out there that are not as lucky as me and opportunists are taking advantage of them by selling this product for well over double the asking price on this very website, and I dare say that they were bought off Amazon too! I feel that steps should be taken by Amazon to ban them from doing this, similar to how eBay have banned the sale of Diana Concert tickets. I realise the money for that is going to a good cause, however isn't making a family member happy at Christmas by getting them a gift that they have probably gone on about for ages without having to pay nearly a mortgage payment amount for a good cause too. I feel that Amazon should address this issue; I have contacted them on several occasions but as yet have not received a reasonable explanation!

It's a real pity.
