A non gamer September 5, 2007 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
I have never been really interested in computer games. I can't really be bothered with the controllers and little buttons. What appealed to me was being able to interact with the game. It just works. It is great fun for adults and children alike.
People complain about the graphics. I can't really compare as I don't have other consoles. The graphics are adequate to allow you to play interactive games.
Grab your Wii stick and give it a waggle! November 27, 2007 16 out of 18 found this review helpful
A Nintendo spokesman said that with the Wii, Nintendo wanted to do something different and bring gaming to people who normally wouldn't go for that sort of thing. This is probably why the Wii has constantly outsold the other 7th Gen consoles which are far superior when it comes to graphics, sound and processor.
I've read reviews where people have slated the graphics on the Wii, which seems a little unfair. They might not be as jaw-dropping as the Xbox 360 or PS3 (which both have phenomenally realistic graphics) but they are still good. This machine doesn't claim to be a powerhouse of retina pleasing visuals, it is a gaming machine - and a fantastic one at that.
I'm the sort of guy who would never find time to play on a 'serious' console, but with the Wii I can plug it in and have a game of bowling with my wife. And when my girls are a bit older they'll enjoy it too.
With the Wii you don't get a better version of what has previously been out - you get something new. I'm sure that future versions of Nintendo consoles will incorporate more realistic graphics, but the point is that you don't NEED blistering graphics to give a great gaming experience. I remember when I used to be immersed in games on my ZX Spectrum - 7 colours and blocky graphics didn't ruin the experience for me.
Bundled with the Wii is the fantastic Wii Sports - incredibly addictive and a perfect game to demonstrate that traditional non-gamers can enjoy playing with a Wii too. Use the Wii-Stick to play bowling, golf, tennis, etc. The machine is easy to set up, and if you have WiFi at home, connecting this takes mere seconds and then you can access a range of online facilities which are quite sparse at the minute - but will no doubt grow. Like most people I know who have a Wii, the first thing you'll do is create a Mii - a 3D avatar of yourself (or anyone want), again it's dead easy as you select the physical features you want. And once connected to the internet you send allow others to download your Mii, or let them mingle and collect on other Wii machines!
In a nutshell: The Wii is the least powerful of the new `big 3', but it is the most innovative, and appeals to a much larger demographic thanks to it's amazing playability. You've never seen anything like it - because this is the first of its kind.
Yay December 8, 2006 21 out of 24 found this review helpful
Yay, I got one. Asda Swansea waiting for 12 and yes, its mine. This is one fun machine. Personally I have always prefered Nintendo, the games are always much more fun,I love my DS too. Anyway. The console is such a cute little size, smaller than I thought, which is great, with all the other electrical items under the telly,at least this is the smallest. As soon as I put on the wii I set up the wireless internet connection, which was so so so easy,I have a bt home hub. There isnt much at the moment on the internet side, but its coming soon. the shopping channel works, you can download some old classic games if you buy points cards, I have just ordered one off amazon, 14.99, with 2000 points on. the wii remote is awsome, use that to point and click on the wii menu, theres a photo channel to view pictures from a sd card, watch slide show or make puzzles out your pics and even doodle on them. You can make you own mii, which is a character you use for the games, choose hair styles, face type, lips, nose, eyes. You get wii sports as you know with it,bowling, tennis, boxing, golf and baseball. I love bowling easy to pick up. Such fun to hear sounds come out of the remote. theres training to get you better, and fitness, that tells you your fitness age, you can do that once a day. Wii might not have the great graphics of other consoles but it has the fun factor, the get up and play factor. I have played lots of other games on consoles with great graphics but they dont leave me wanting to play more. My eyes ache from playing the wii,its so much fun I just wanna keep playing. Ok I have not had it for even a day yet,but hey its great fun. So I am off to play wii sports again,Tennis anyone??
Wii will rock you!!! December 9, 2006 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
I pre-ordered a Wii and got it on December 8th and I am very pleased with it! The controller fits perfectly into the hand and the control system is very responsive (i.e when you move the remote the character responds to the movement without delay). The graphics, although not High Definition, are very good and in most cases quite breathtaking! The sound is too also of a very high quality! WiiConnect24 is a useful feature so your console is always updated and you can get new content sent to you overnight (providing it is pluged in)!It is something new and it works well! You have to try it to realise just how brillient it is. Good work Nintendo!
Wii Love Wii December 9, 2006 20 out of 23 found this review helpful
THIS IS GREAT!!! Got it yesterday and spent several hours on it last night/early this morning 'testing' it to ensure happy kids at Christmas, finally got nagged into going to bed at 2:30
Tennis, Golf, Bowling and Boxing are all really good fun. Definitely order Wii Play to get another controller.
Having played almost all the games systems to hit the UK market and being a current owner of Nintendo DS Lite, PS2 and N64 amongst others I think this is the biggest thing to hit gaming ever - if you're not quite sure, just go for it NOW (you might get one before Christmas with any luck).
See you online as soon as there's an online golf game available!
