Where do I begin reviewing a game that simply smashes all expectations and rewards you with a truly brilliant experience? I recall playing Metal Gear Solid all those years ago on my Playstation 1. Being a school boy at the time, it became the sole reason to skip on homework and only leave my room for meals. This game sparked my devotion to the MGS series and I have been hooked ever since. Once completing the games I can only describe my emotions as `wow...what a ride.' And I never thought it could possibly get any better than MG3 Snake Eater. Until now...
Like other reviewers, it is difficult to go into detail about MGS4 without spoiling some aspect of the game. Firstly, the visuals are simply stunning. You will never see anything so visually beautiful. They refer to Hideo Kojima as `the Steven Spielberg' of games, a reputation that has definitely been exceeded and lived up to. The game is like one big movie, a movie that you, as the gamer are directly involved in shaping as you play through it.
Every bit of this game really does ooze quality. The negative reviews are born from people who have played MGS here and there, not really appreciating its full story and ending to this truly epic masterpiece. Hideo, we salute you.

firstly i have seen ratings as low as two or even one, usually because of complaints about the length of some of the scenes. Personally i appreciate it, as it clearly shows immense effort and a clear love which the creators have put in to this masterpiece, besides there is the ability to SKIP if you are really on the verge of suicide...
Anyway this has really blown everything else out of the water, if this was on xbox rather than ps it probably couldve destroyed ps forever, but it is ultimately sonys saviour in 3rd generation consoles.
The story is complicated true, ive had the game for a few weeks and only yesterday have i finally understood the whole story. But thats a good thing as it adds re-playability to the game besides the huge list of efforts awards and ofcourse on the games internet challenges.
I could go on for hours about the customizable weapons, the cool gadgets, the graphics and the great voice acting, but you have probably heard it all before- its all amazing.
What i will say is that i have never seen so much love and attention to detail in a game which kojima clearly has such a huge connection with and is probably going to miss solid snake more than anyone. Even if youve played this game again and again and still do not like it you must appreciate the effort put in.
I was certainly sad at the ending which is a great end to a great story and gaming series, goodbye snake and thankyou

This is the best game i have ever played, the storyline is brilliant, the graphics are brilliant and the gameplay is brilliant! I have played and completed it multiple times since i brought it. If you don't buy this game you will regret it big time!

For anyone looking for reviews of this game the internet will provide a vast array, so I will keep mine brief and to the point.
If you like any previous Metal Gear for the story buy this. If you liked them for the gameplay this will blow you away. It is single most beautifully balanced and effortlessly executed experience I have enjoyed in around 15 years of gaming. This is also the reason I ignore criticisms of the story being overbearing, as a fan of the story i watched enjoyed every minute on a couple of playthroughs and subsequently skipped story sequences and just played the game, there isn't a single section which is less than great and many moments when it touches phenomenal.
I close by strongly recommending you try the online portion of the game too. I pretty much ignored it until recently and I'm not hugely into online gaming yet either, but MGS4 gameplay + a large variety of fun and interesting individual and team-based modes = a surprisingly fun and addictive experience.
Bottom line: this game oozes class. Don't miss out on this diamond.

You fire the game up and instantly realise this is why you own a PS3. This is why you own a HD TV. This is what surround sound and rumble (Dualshock 3) is for.
I've not been a massive metal gear fan before this game as I can find them a bit drawn out and slow with all the sneaking... but this episode allows you to play the game how you want to play it.
Three minor nigles - Lip-syncing has obviously been affected as it wasn't developed in English - You can't jump vertically - The maps can be a bit narrow durring the first quarted of the game.
But that being said, you get over and forget the above very quickly. It is stunning, it plays like a dream and the controls feel really relaxed, the story line is really fun and in a weird way the game feels satisfying to play, you get a "yep, I did deserve to kick that bad guy's arse".
Also, I really don't like online aspects of fighting games, such as Resistance or Halo because there is always some geek who has spent many many hours getting way better than you and the majority of your time is spent getting spanked... Meltal Gear Online is something else! It is incredible, you don't mind dying as you re-spawn so quickly and because you can hide and see what your team mates see through this really cool feature the game has added. It is easy to be a complete novice / casual (read as "rubbish") gamer like me and not get smashed all over the place.
If you are wondering wether to get this game, get it, it is the best game for the PS3. Actualy, I'll stick my neck out and say it is the best 1 player game on any system, ever.
Can't beleieve I've got revved up like this by a computer game... but it is awesome. True story.
