5 out of 5 stars WARNING! adult content...   July 7, 2008

This game is great. I'm not going to go overboard in graphic terms with regard to content as with the huge numbers of reviews already here it's not wirth repeating that, but if you're wondering whether or not to buy this game as a present for a youngster, then think again. This game has more than earned it's 18 rating. In addition to the strip clubs you can take your in game friends to and pay for private lapdances rendered beautifuly in 3D, it's possible to buy hookers, graphically murder and get involved with drugs, gangs and guns as well as thieving cars, and the dialogue is gratuitous even by the standard of Goodfella's.

I don't want to paint a black picture it's great ADULT fun, but it just ain't for kids.

5 out of 5 stars Controversial Brilliance   September 17, 2008

I must say that having been a fan of the Grand Theft Auto series since the very beginning i loved all the PS1 games, then the PS2 era came and was spectacular in my opinion and when i bought a Playstation 3 I was looking forward to the 4th proper installment, and what a game it is!
The graphics are spectacular, for the size it is, the detail is absolutely amazing, like actually being in New York (Libery City)
The storyline is great, just like a typical action adventure movie.
The online is okay its not for me but it is extremely popular and there are lots of game modes to try.
This game is not for children as it contains extreme violence, coarse language, prostitution, drugs, sexism and all sorts more but it is absolutely fantastic.

If your bored theres nothing more fun than shooting, running over, blowing up, beating up, stabbing innocent bystanders and policemen as the car and gun physics are spot on.

You could play GTA IV for months and still be finding new and exciting things to do.

If your into this sort of thing then dont miss out.
All the hype was right and you wont regret buying GTA IV.

The best game ever made?

well so far, lets see what happens......

5 out of 5 stars Multiplayer GTA4 on PS3   April 22, 2008

If any one whated to knw about the multiplayer infor for GTA4 on the pS3 will here it is;

GTA IV will be the first game in the GTA series to include online multiplayer on a console with goals of supporting up to 16 players and has been confirmed that multiplayer will be open-ended gameplay that allows players to explore the whole city. Later revealed in an issue of PSM, GTA IV will have 15 modes of play and support up to 16 players, with the player using a customisable character to play as, with a choice of gender, race and clothing. The modes of play include several varieties of deathmatch and racing, with a cooperative single player mission and free mode. Other multiplayer modes include Mafia, in which players try to complete an objective before their opponents, and Cops 'N' Crooks, in which one team of police officers must stop the other team of criminals from escaping. The map used in multiplayer will be the same as the single player map and the host of the games can control many variables like traffic, police reaction and laps in races. Rockstar has left one game type unknown and not explained some.

During a hands on preview with major review sites several new details were revealed. Gameplay in multiplayer is identical to the single player; players will be free to roam the map during multiplayer games, although weapons and spawn points will only appear within a pre-defined area. The host of the game has a great degree of control over the game and can specify where, when, and what weapons may be used, police presence and more. Voice chat is supported and the player may chat with individual players by calling them on the mobile phone.

The online games are split into two types, ranked and unranked. The reward for the ranked gameplay will be cash. The amount of cash a player has will determine their rank. The game does not feature any split-screen or LAN multiplayer modes

5 out of 5 stars The ULTIMATE game   May 5, 2008

I am a 30+ year veteran in computer and video + arcade games. Trust me when I say I KNOW what makes a good game and a bad game.
I used to think GTA San Andreas was the peak of gaming - the ultimate in story telling, gameplay variation, downright enjoyability, activities galore, a sprawling tri-metropolis, albeit lacking in the visuals. GTA:SA had a lot of enjoyable games genres (if not all?) built into one title, stuck together with a great gangster movie style delivery.
Well now GTA 4 comes along and knocks San Andreas off its perch. It has everything SA does (although maybe not as many overall activities, including those of the 'LC stories' and 'VC stories' spinoffs) but puts everything together in a more seamless way than SA did for some reason.
Plus, the one area the GTA titles have been lacking in has been mostly addressed. The visuals. Looking across the new Liberty City skyline is one of the most stunning things I've witnessed in a game. RS have gone to the effort of making the city more visible over a distance. Take the helicopter rides and just fly around - you'll love it!
I say mostly, because it doesnt hit the pinnacle of sheer visual quality, that honour goes to, maybe, Crysis on the PC. Also the frame rate can drop dramatically. But lets not lose perspective - the game is rendering a complete city - we can afford Rockstar some leeway!
Also some visual aspects dont look totally 'next-gen', but expected from a title of this magnitude. For instance, the mocap character animations sometimes look a bit odd, but they have gone all out to represent voice lipsync and general facial animation well, for a new level of character believability. Again applauded because aside from these aspects the game is simply VAST in every respect.
Liberty City is more representative of a real city, more main streets, much more back alleyways, more residential roads, more industrial areas, this makes the city infinitely more believable than any previous GTA title. This title provides an even more sprawling metropolis split over several islands. It includes, as far as I can work out, every aspect of a real city, including the rubbish (garbage) trucks.
All the different ways of getting around the new LC show how much RS have thought about keeping the player interested, the subway system alone is well defined for any game, and they've even thrown in a skycar!
Ladies and Gentleman, I dont at all think I'm being overzealous by stating that, this is, without a shadow of a doubt, the 'best video game' ever created. On any system.
Dont believe me? Look at ALL the aspects of the title - game environment, storyline+movielike delivery, wide variety of well defined gameplay activities (including using a mobile phone, computer, police computer, TV, radio etc!), all the rest - compare them in a totally unbiased way with ANY other title on ANY other system. GTA 4 wins on every count - its quite simple.
This title will go down in history as being at the top - I am sure its sales will reflect that too.
If you were to split the whole concept in twain, you would have its overall technical achievement - which is phenomenal, I dread to think the amount of effort gone into the production - and you would have its emotional and enjoyment aspects - also phenomenal.
This title clearly betters that of anything out of the 20th century, and that of the 21st so far. Lets see what else Rockstar have to bring in the 21st? I for one would love to see a similar make over done on Vice City!

5 out of 5 stars New, exciting and totally addictive, tell-tale signs of another GTA classic   April 29, 2008

It's the game we've all been waiting ages for. GTA 4 is one of the reasons i bought a PS3. The Grand Theft Auto games on the PS2 were instant classics and after immersing myself in GTA 4, i can safely say this one - the next chapter in an awesome series - lives up to all my expectations.

The anticipation for this game was immense, and on release day i was straight down to the shops to get my hands on a copy. But what about the game itself? Well, if there was one word i could use to sum up the new features it would be 'realism'. What makes GTA 4 so good is that it draws on the more realistic features of clones like Mafia and The Getaway while at the same time completely maintains the sense of fun and adventure that made the GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas so good. It's a perfect blend - an immense, living, breathing city, driving, action, fighting - what more could you want?

There's a few tweaks to the controls and cars now feel more weighty, requiring more skill to manouvere and damage is more realistic; gone are the days of instant explosions. One of the best new features is the GPS/Sat Nav system which cleverly plots a course to your destination and is an immediate aid.

The combat system has also had a nice overhaul with a cover system and a more precise aiming system. Hand to hand combat as well as the physicality of your character in actions like running is especially more realistic, adding a more human feel to the character an understanding of what he can and can't do. There's also online too, featuring numerous mini games such as deathmatch.

And the graphics... just wow! the past GTA's always lacked a little in this respect but we accepted it because of their immense scope but what we have in GTA 4 is just breathtaking. A day-to-night time system adds variety to the city and the water looks almost photo-real. The game above all, is all about depth and you can find it on every street, many buildings offering enteriors you can enter on missions and then return to in your free time later on.

And the story/characters - both are a great success. You warm immediately to the guy you play as, Niko - his banter with cousin Roman adding that classic GTA comedy factor that always brings a smile to your face while you're playing. There's much more free choice here too, you have to make choices, go out with a girlfriend or help your cousin. Failed missions are also instantly replayable via your phone (a great feature by the way) and offer different dialogue each time.

All in all, GTA 4 is all you loved about its prequels, and so much more. The new controls and features might take a while to get used to but the missions follow a gentle learning curve and you soon become enthralled in Niko's story and the opportunities Liberty City offers. Once again the Grand Theft Auto series delivers on so many levels, sealing this game's place yet another classic. An absolute must buy!
