Best game on the XBOX 360 July 3, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
As with others I eagerly awaited the release of GTA IV. I'd played all the previous games so there was alot of living up to do.
To be totally honest, when I first started playing this game, I did feel as though it was lacking something. BUT...after giving it some time it has won me over.
The graphics are clearly superb...the best of any game I have played. The driving is fantastic...hard to begin with, but after some time it becomes second nature. After going back onto GTA SA and VC the driving is marginally better in GTA IV.
The missions are brilliant...just the same as the type of missions we have come to love. There are some pretty meaty side missions too (racing, assassinations, drug dealing, taxi driving, police most wanted missions, pigeon shooting).
Another good aspect of the game is the ability to socialize. You can play darts, bowling, go to the bar, strip club, comedy club (ricky gervais and kat williams). When you've become friends with someone they will do favours for you (as do girlfriends) which can be very useful.
To be totally honest, there are too many great aspects of this game to list. The attention to detail is incredible. I think that this game is in a league of it's own and thus is a must- have.
Better then the others July 15, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
This game is so much better then past Gta games although i really enjoyed them the story line, missions, roaming around is so much better a must for any gta fans
SIMPLY THE BEST October 21, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
To all those people who are slandering this incredible game i say...YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOUR TALKING ABOUT.This game never stops giving, its got arguably the best protagonist of any game to date...the great Nikko Bellic.Theres just no way you can even scratch the surface of what this game is capable of in such a short space.Basically, the story is brilliant, the characters are ledgendary, the city is the best open world in videogame history and online multiplayer is second to none and is years ahead of its time.I consider this the single best game ive ever played. The reason for this being that games are designed to be fun, this game is the most fun therefore the best. There is nothing like 16 player free mode in GTA IV.sixteen people let loose across the whole city, with everything that is in the single player available, bar the story and a slight reduction in the variety of traffic.Free mode has by far the most creative potential of any online multiplayer to date and literally is Infinately fun.Dont let theese negative reviews discourage you from buying the best game ever made.People that submit negative reviews are just hoping that having an alternative opinion will somehow make it seem like they know more about the game than the rest of us, or that they simply dont like it themselves as opposed to judging it as a game...this game has sold 10 million copies worldwide as of august 2008, it speaks for itself.JOIN US IN LIBERTY CITY
The very best in video games April 25, 2008 14 out of 29 found this review helpful
Now that I've had the game for a few days and played it for about 12 hours I thought I'd update my review that I posted earlier
Firstly - should you buy the game? Undoubtedly yes! If you enjoyed the last 3 you wil almost certainly like this one. Rockstar have taken may of the great qualities of GTA and kept them WHILE improving many of the slightly annoying details.
A good example is the new AUTOSAVE feature which saves your progress at the end of a (successful) mission. With San Andreas I used to have to drive to a safehouse to save between missions - now I rarely visit a safehouse.
Also Rockstar have changed the way you die - now if you lose your health completely you `wake up' At the local hospital, lose a small amount of money but you KEEP YOUR WEAPONS. Previously you would have had to visit the ammunition to buy new gear.
When you fail a mission now you get a text which lets you go back straight to the beginning of the mission without the need to travel there. Brilliant change.
The aiming mechanism used to be a pain in the backside but now it is much improved. You can lock on to a bad guy by holding the left trigger and fire by pressing the right trigger. Alternatively, if you want to free-aim then just hold the left trigger halfway down.
All of the changes above make the game so much better in my opinion.
The game play has not changed terribly, but if it isn't broke, don't fix it. The cars handle with more difficulty than previously but you will adapt pretty soon to the new style of driving.
The level of detail in the game is the reason it gets 10/10 from me - the many thousands of bins, phones, litter, graffiti, posts are incredible. However Rockstar managed to fit this on a DVD is incredible. It must have taken thousands of man hours to program the amount of detail in this game.
The missions are similar to previous games with a few new ones e.g. chasing a subway train whilst on the road in a car. The first few are very easy and serve as a tutorial to the new controls but not one so far has been a chore to complete.
Commit a crime and the cops come after you. Get a high enough wanted level (shown by stars on the screen) and they make it very difficult for you to get away. A three star wanted level meant a helicopter was trailing me last night and it took about 10 minutes of frantic driving through alleys and making fast turns to lose the cops. Pricelessly good gameplay tho...
In summary, this game is incredible. The only other 360 game which comes close to it is call of duty 4 which in my opinion was amazing. However COD 4 will only last about 6 hours and GTA 4 wll last much much longer (14% completed after about 12 hours)
This game is the definition of UNMISSABLE. 10/10
Great Game....A Sandbox for you and your mates... April 30, 2008 3 out of 6 found this review helpful
I am writing this review because of the negativity some reviewers have displayed, often due to THEIR OWN INABILITY to play this game.
Lots of controls? Yes...but that is why the game eases you in with new elements being added every mission..in fact the first whole chapter is alomost like a tutorial, albeit a fun humourous one. Onscreen prompts guide you through all aspects.I am amazed at the sheer volume of controls, but the sheer level of detail and freedom you requires a range of controls...trust me..I have only had a 360 for a little over 2 months and even I have got use to the controls.
Driving is tricky? Well the handling of the cars has been made more realistic, so no, you can't just brake at the last minute and expect to take a tight right at 100mph, and many yank cars DONT go round corners well. Driving at speed is a more skillfull affair, as it is in real life.
I have only seen it run on a CRT and even so the graphics are amazing, the streets are busy, everyone is interactive, the AI is massively improved and rockstar have taken a giant leap towards the "virtual city" with citizens interacting and behaving in ways you'd expect e.g. calling cops on you, getting kind of touchy when you brick an oap....you know, the good old GTA pleasanties just went next gen!!!
The missions are varied, the cities are huge and you can relate to the characters...some you like, some you wish dead, and fortunately executing some main game characters does become a CHOICE...
The police system is improved with an ever increasing radius of search you have to escape depending on your wanted level, theres sat nav (with choice of voices calmly telling you to turn right as someones blood smears all over your bonnet), girlfriends (who don't like you performing drivebys and road rage murders when you date them, funnily enough), and a cellphone...yes your mobile..I couldn't find multiplayer..duh.. ITS ON THE PHONE!!(apparently) multiplayer...HUGE...ENDLESS...FUN...
To sum up..All the fun of the other GTAs is here, all the humour, all the action, only moreso...much much more...I've been gaming for over 20 years...this is pure heaven...thankyou ROCKSTAR!
