4 out of 5 stars SIXAXIS at a glance   December 10, 2007

Looking at things straight the only people interested in this are PS3 owners who want more than the 1 or 2 controller(s) that came with their PS3.

Main points:
It is very light compared to the PS2 controller (probably due to the lack of rumble). You can wait for the Dualshock 3 to come out however (but Sony haven't set a date and you know what that could mean in terms of delays etc.)

The R2/L2 shoulder buttons are know 'triggers' somewhat (although most FPS games available on the PS3 still use the R1 button as the primary trigger). The only thing that I don't like about these triggers is the fact that they are very sensitive meaning that gameplay can become a little awkward if they are assigned to secondary fire (like grenade launchers etc).

The actual SIXAXIS tilt function seems somewhat untapped by the developers of games (exceptions to the rule include Lair, Warhawk and a few others) as in most it feels more like a novelty which wears off quickly. Personally I would have preferred a rumble pack but that's not the way its been done so there's nothing more to be said.

The fact that it's wireless helps a great deal enabling you to sit a reasonable distance from the screen and play with up to 4 players (up to 7 in theory - most games have 1-4 players) without the jumble of wires.
The battery life of a controller is between 7-10 hours before it requires recharging. You can play while recharging but the cable is approx. 3' long so it is difficult.

In terms of price I think that 35 RRP is a bit excessive, so Amazon is the best you will find at 27.99. (Trust me I did the research).
One of the major concerns I had with the six-axis was that without the rumble pack it wouldn't feel right. In all honesty you don't notice that it's gone with all the high-def action in the background.

My overall opinion:
If you have a PS3 and want more controllers, get the official Sony ones. The controllers may have been better with a rumble pack but are the best of all the SIXAXIS controllers out there.

Let me just say something first, compared with all three console controllers I think this one is the best.

Even though Sony have only tinkered at best with the controller, thier small changes have worked out very well. The R2/L2 buttons are much more comfortable and it actually feels like you're operating something. In games like Motorstorm(in which R2 is acceleration) accelerating your vehicle feels very real because of the changes that they have made. The wireless range is absolutely brilliant and the six-axis does tend to work well in most games.

4 out of 5 stars Good, but no rumble =[   July 4, 2007

i love this controller, the six axis is great, i love the way it feels like the old controller, and i love the new trigger L2 and R2 buttons

but....

I think the missing vibration has ruined it a bit.
will they ever make a vibrating controller for the Ps3??

4 out of 5 stars Rather buy official   September 9, 2007

When it comes to controllers.. I have to say.. buy the official controller.. even from the days of the PS1 or even the megadrive.. I've made the mistake of occasionally buying a 3rd party controller only to find it lacking.. doesn't feel as sturdy, nor responsive as the official merchandise. Also, when you go round to your mates house and he's got a 3rd party one.. theres always the argument about losing because you were using the naff controller. don't get me wrong.. I'm not a official merchandise fanatic.. but when it comes to controllers.. its gotta be the official one.. worth spending that extra couple of quid.. go on.. treat your self.

4 out of 5 stars A good controller, nonetheness, but lets wait and see...   August 8, 2007

I received this controller with my Playstation 3 system, and it is on par with most of the other controllers for responsiveness (for example, the logitech wingman and the Wiimote), which helps to make this a highly enjoyable experience due to the motion sensitivty.

There are slight issues with the controller, such as people costantly moaning about the lack of rumble feature, (to quote one reviewer: "sony's lies"). In my opinion, I haven't missed the rumble feature at all, but I can see how it could be quite annoying when playing Playstation 2 games on the system. Never fear!! There is going to be a rumble wireless sixaxis controller coming out soon, as quoted from a gaming website "before Christmas".

The main strength of this controller is that it has rechargable batteries. As trivial as it seems, none of the other controllers have this capability, and i think that this is the sixaxis' main selling point. Also, many of the games coming out in the future (such as Warhawk) will capitalise on the sixaxis feature, and will be fully motion sensitive.

In conclusion, this controller is better in some respects to the rest (such as having a rechargable battery), but if i were you, I'd wait until a dualshock sixaxis comes out before investing in one.
