Absolutely awesome February 25, 2007 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
As someone has already mentioned reviews and comments around the internet are based on the rushed out Japanese version from 4 months ago. After playing the European launch version. All i can say is i was gobsmacked. Blistering graphics and gameplay. This game will get 10/10 in many magazines when they update there reviews. Every PS3 owner must get this game.
I think I'm a Motorstorm addict April 3, 2007 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
I can't stop playing this game. It's so much fun. The graphics are amazing. The start video to the game looks like real film footage, it's quite freaky really. As for the actual in game graphics they are also really good. You can pause the game and use the right analogue stick to rotate the camera around the vehicle and you really can see an awful lot of detail here, the mud textures and everything look amazing. Playability on this game is great. It requires a lot of tactic and thought, as each different vehicle (7 altogether with 5 in each class, each one giving you different skin options) has its own characteristics and each cope with certain terrain in different ways. The new ps3 controller also works great with this game. The pressure sensitive back buttons are used for accelerate and break, which is great because obviously changing the pressure will cause your vehicle to either drive faster or slower. There's also the motion sensitivity, where you tilt the controller to go left or right. It takes a while to get the hang of, but once you do it's an awful lot of fun and very addictive. It does give you the option of switching motion sensitivity off however if you don't like it. It's also a lot of fun driving over people in your big rig, or if you're on a bike or ATV you can drive up alongside others and push the driver off.
There are a total of 8 tracks. Not a lot, but it feels like more because each track includes a variety of different routes, each suited to different vehicle types. Each track is also greatly detailed and includes a number of different terrain types. Better to have quality over quantity in some cases, and this is one of those cases.
This game has a single player mode and an online mode. Online is a lot of fun. It can have up to 12 players in one race and it keeps a profile of your number of wins and losses, giving you a fame value such as pro or legend. Single player mode isn't that deep, it doesn't have a plot or anything, but it's still a lot of fun and gives you somewhere to hone your skills before going online. I noticed people complaining about the lack of depth in single player, but come to think of it I don't actually know that many racers with depth to them, it's a simple affair of crossing the finish line first. Achieving this involves a mix of speed, adrenaline and probably a lot of big crashes...
The game also has a pretty cool soundtrack, including titles from Slipknot, Nirvana, Pendulum, Spiritualised, kings of leon, pitchshifter, wolfmother and others.
The only negatives I can think of for this game is firstly the lack modes, i'd like a time trial and an offline multiplayer mode (Although offline multiplayer probably wouldn't have been much use to me anyway because I'm the only gamer in this household, but I can imagine it being a negative for quite a few people), and secondly, I would have liked to have seen some stats such as control and speed being placed up against each vehicle when choosing which one to ride. Other than those things it's an awesome game....
All analysis and reviewing aside however, without looking too deeply into the game, it's given me an awful lot of enjoyment and that's all that really matters at the end of the day. I'm loving it and for this reason, despite the odd negative, i'm giving this game full marks.
BUY THIS GAME July 19, 2007 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
This is the most fun I have ever had online. There are more people to talk with online now. The graphics and range of vehicles you can race make this a very entertaining and challenging game at the same time. It doesn't matter if you are first or last just enjoy the crashes or running others off the road online. Or you could unlock new vehicles in single player mode and get used to the levels first. Just remember the simple rule of; ENJOY,ENJOY THEN ENJOY SOME MORE.
Enormous Filthy Fun - the Wacky Racers meets Mad Max January 25, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This game was recommended to me so I downloaded the demo and it was great fun - the Wacky Racers meets Mad Max, along cliff path roads. The scenery is spectacular with good use of Monument Valley etc. I had read all the previous reviews and was put off by the negatives - of which there are a few - no off-line multiplayer, load times etc. However the fun factor vastly outweighs the negatives. Also additional content is available on the PS3 Network. On the parental side do note that it is brutal hence the '12+' rating but a lot of the violence is hidden. Personally I found the crashes and moralities more dubious in the '3+' rated Burnout Paradise.
A great start March 2, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Call of Duty and some other games have been stealing the headlines this year, with everbody recommending those games to you when you decide to buy a PS3, however, it is very rare to find the big name games in the bundles you get with your ps3, motorstorm is often found though. If you are looking to buy a PS3 but don't know which bundle to get, motorstorm is a great game to get you started, it has an easy set of controls, it looks great, it has a good online system and over everything else, it is fun to play! 10/10, as a first game however I would direct you to the big name games if you want to buy it without the PS3.
