This game has recieved a lot of criticism. Possibly justified possibly not. But at the end of the day it is great great fun. You really do feel like you are a rock god when you pull off a riff. The chracters and crowd graphics are more cool and retro than guitar hero but lack a bit of the charm of its predeccesor. As I already own GH3 i just purchased the drum and game for 80. Its the kind of game anyonein the family can play from my 3 year old to his grandparents. Great fun even if a little pricey.

Why do people compare us all the time with America. It's not just about a direct exchange from dollars to pounds or if you live in europe the Euro. Lots of other factors have to be accounted for such as import duty imposed by the government not ea games and the cost to ship the units from the states. The problem is these days people expect too much for free or such a low price that the developers end up losing money. I suppose thats because we live in a Tesco culture. If you want to play the game buy it and play it, if your worried about the money then buy guitar hero 3. This game is worth the wait and the cost. ENJOY.

Yes that's right. I'm saying Rock Band is great value for money, even with all the peripheral costs.
I would say that in the past 10 days, Rock Band has given myself and my wife 40 - 50 hours of entertainment. Even at full market value thats around 3.50 per hour. In another 10 days, we would have paid around 1.75 per hour of entertainment.
Compare that to:
Rock Concert : 40 for 60 - 120 minutes
Football Match : 40 - 90 for 90 minutes
Cinema Ticket : 7.50 for roughly 120 minutes
Now yes we pay more than the US for RB, but we also pay more for petrol, houses, cars, iTunes, MS Points, McDonalds meals and just about anything else you care to mention.
Right that's that over with. Onto the actual GAME!
There are 2 main parts to the game. The solo part and the multiplayer part. The solo part is pretty identuical to the Guitar Hero series where you play a series a increasingly difficult songs, unlocking more as you go.
The meat of the game though is in "Band World Tour", where you need 2 or more people (you can do it yourself if you sing and also play an instrument). You create your band and start playing 'gigs', which can range from a single song to a 58 song set, and are pretty varied. You have 'random' setlists, and also 'choose your own' setlists.
As you complete the sets, you gain stars, money and fans. As you build Stars and fans, you unlock new cities, venues and setlists. Money allows you to customise your rocker with clothes, instruments, hairstyles, and makeup. Each rocker you create is 'locked' to an instrument, so there is plenty of scope for having a few characters and making them very different in style.
I would say that this is the best game of 2008, in terms of how many people will enjoy it. It's a great party game where everyone can get involved, but can also be enjoyed 'solo'.
If you are not put off by the cost of the peripherals then go the whole hog and get the Band in a Box also. If you are not sure about the long term enjoyment you may get, then just buy the Solus game and buy a 2nd Hand Guitar Hero 2 (X-Ploder) guitar for about 10 as this controller works fine on the Xbox 360. Then you can add to your instruments if and when you decide.
Remember you don't HAVE to buy the whole 180 set to enjoy the game.....

I you include price I would give this game around 2 stars, as it is far too steep at RRP, though if you can get it for 35.00 and the instruments edition for 100.00, then buy a Les Paul Guitar Hero guitar for 45.00, giving you the complete Guitar, Bass, Mic and Drums kit with the game, like me for 180, its not that bad, around 40 - 50 too much for my liking, maybe scraping a low 4 stars.
Gameplay wise, i cant fault this game, an easy 5 stars, and because of DLC to come in the future, you may never tire of this expensive piece of kit. First night I got this, my mates and I were rocking all night, not stopping the Band World Tour once.
The game looks good too, unlike Guitar Hero's try hard visuals, Rock Band looks great! It may be difficult to see past the 4 instrument panels, but it does look great and suttle stage effects just add to the rocking feel.
To sum up, i think that the price is 45 too steep, but I could justtify it for myself after playing it in Zavvi. The actual game is briliant, beautifully presented, better than any guitar Hero I have played and so much fun, I will never tire of rocking out with my mates, but i would advise more thought to go into buying it if you dont have mates who would come over, get drunk, and just play Rock Band. I give it:

Everybody who says this game is a waste of money clearly haven't actually PLAYED the game. This is one of the most amazing games in the world. I some what agree how its overpriced, only because you have to get the set separately, but it is defiantly worth it. After a friends birthday party who brought the game from the US, i was hooked. I tried to get my fix through Guitar Hero, but it just did not cut it. The song list is vaster (than guitar hero), you cannot really get bored with four instruments to choose from, and if you get a bunch of kids who just hit puberty in one room screaming into the microphone, its quite good for the laughs.
After I played it i started saving my money straight away, there was no stopping me, I MUST HAVE ROCK BAND. It is defiantly worth every penny of my money.
I state again, the price might be high, but once you actually get it and start playing, you will think its a gift from god, and will pay any amount to get your hands on it.
5 * because it is THAT amazing
