Unlike others who have a problem about the pricing.. May 18, 2008 1 out of 5 found this review helpful
...I can afford this game and own it, and it's great fun, it's Guitar Hero, but with added perks for everyone else, hell, you can still play expert mode infront of your friends and family, but they can enjoy singing along and drumming along with the song on an easy difficulty. A huge load of songs on the disk, and over 100 more to download, for a price, but not that much, it won't get boring quickly, just grab your mates, have a laugh and rock into the night.
A review of the game, not the price April 22, 2008 2 out of 12 found this review helpful
No, I haven't played this yet. But neither have 99% of other people reviewing this game here, so why shouldn't I express my opinion too? Yeah, the price is steep, but if you were expecting something close to the US price, you were bound for disappointment anyway. And yeah, even if you were expecting a price hike, this is still a bit over the top. But decide for yourself if you're willing to pay this price (I certainly am.)
The game itself will have just under 60 tracks on the disc, 8 or 9 of which are 'exclusive' to European versions. That's a decent number of tracks, but I remember buying GH2 Solus on PS2 for 25 when it came out, that that game has, what, 70 songs on it? But Rock Band is so much more than Guitar Hero, what with the inclusion of drums and vocals, the never-ending Band World Tour, and linear, GH-style single-player modes for all parts except bass (which I understand only has quickplay for solo play.) So although there are fewer songs on the disc, there's so much more gameplay. That about justifies the price for me.
Many professional reviews state that, as far as guitar goes, Rock Band is considerably easier than Guitar Hero 3. See for yourself though - check out some of the many expert videos on YouTube and decide if the charts are challenging yourself. And remember, this is Harmonix making the game, not Neversoft, so if you prefer the charts of GH1 and 2, chances are Rock Band will seem like a welcome return home after the fun but slightly too stressful holiday that was GH3. Don't judge the game just by the guitar, though - there are drums, too! Some say that playing drums on expert is just like playing real drums; others say they're nothing alike. But one thing's for sure - they look incredibly fun and incredibly hard! As for singing... Well, you either like to sing or you don't.
Lastly, there's downloadable content. Weekly. And often cheaply. Songs will average at just over 1 per track, with small discounts if you buy songs in a pack as opposed to individually. Is that value for money? Well, better value than Guitar Hero DLC. There's so much choice, too! You'll never get bored with Rock Band's track list because there'll always be some awesome new songs availiable for download. Whole albums are just starting to be released now, too. Boston's self-titled debut album is almost there in its entirety (just Let Me Take You Home Tonight is missing, at the moment...) and Screaming for Vengance by Judas Priest will be available in time for the UK release. If neither of those tickle your fancy though, you can be assured Harmonix will give one of your favourite albums or artists the Rock Band treatment eventually.
Personally, I'm gonna give GTAIV a miss so I can save for this, cos it's gonna be worth the money. Even if you can't afford the Band in a Box, just buy the game and pretend it's another Guitar Hero (if you already own a guitar) then by the drums at a later date. I acknowledge the fact that I'll be a total mug paying 40 for the game, 100 for instruments then another 40 for downloadable songs, but I'll be a mug who owns Rock Band, and that's the best kind of mug a man could ever hope to be.
HOLD ON A MINUTE May 29, 2008 1 out of 6 found this review helpful
dont mean to be pickie here but this game has a pegi rating of 12 so you all think that the band in a box would be well for everyone seeing as their plastic toys well no their not even a 12 like the game the pegi rating for the band in the box is a 16 so if your 12 you can buy the game but u cant buy the controllers sorry. funny hey?
anyone know a good reason for this.
If you haven't played it then you have no idea May 20, 2008 1 out of 7 found this review helpful
Yes, it may be expensive but when you think about it, they could have charged a lot more Guitar hero 3 was 75 when it came out and it came with the game and guitar, making the guitar around 35 since most new games are 40 With rock band you pay 100 for a drum kit, guitar and microphone and they aren't exactly poor quality, especially the guitar. The game is 40 like most new games when they come out, so 100 for 3 high quality instruments isn't that expensive
If you say you're not gonna get it because of the price then you have clearly never played the game since it is immense. Guitar hero 3 can get boring after a while since its just a guitar and the songs list is pathetic. Rock band offers u the chance to change instruments and have a great laugh with your mates or serious fun by yourself and the online play and downloads are immense, and the song downloads are cheap
Give into the hype, it is so worth it!!!!
Woohoo! April 15, 2008 2 out of 19 found this review helpful
Looking forward to it!
The Band in a Box special edition is made in China, whilst due to localisation issues ie manuals for each country in the EU, the game is being made in europe. It would only add to the current price to ship all the special editions over to europe, only to then be unboxed, reboxed and sent off.
The price is due to the costs of shipping, distributing, VAT which is very high in the UK and various other issues. EA/Harmonix have also admitted to setting a 'high point' for the sale price, which unlike American retailers who stick by SRP, UK retailers will compete to lower.
