5 out of 5 stars stop whinning   May 26, 2008

stop your whinning every one yeah the game is expensive but the best things in life aren't free this is probably the best game ive played all year you can have 4 people playing at 1nce on your console 1 person singing another 2 doing the guitar and bass and then someone drumming it is the ultimimate band experience on any console its the closest thing most people will be getting to being in a band and it is a suburb game.AND if you really are just a cheap scape like most people just buy the game and drums on their own no one is forcing you 2 pay 180 for the whole thing. so come on dont be stupid like the idiotic people who think good games should be cheap.

5 out of 5 stars A worthwhile purchase for a group   March 26, 2008

Me and my flatmates recently got a chance to give Rock Band a test drive by our local indie games shop who were drumming up pre-orders for the imminent (we hope) UK release.
We weren't actually briefed on the controls beyond "There's the guitar, the drums, use the joypad to control the person with the mic" and so we jumped in from there with myself on the guitar (as the most proficient Hero of the flat)Ben on vocals and Chris on drums. It was an initial disaster with both Ben and Chris failing relatively quickly and myself trying hard to maintain the status quo on a guitar that feels nothing like the Guitar Hero microswitch design.
So we switched out, with myself on the drums for a while, Chris sitting it out and Ben providing guitar. And I came to an amazing revelation: I could play drums. After spending a futile four weeks years ago, I had resigned myself to having no talent in the percussion department. But with the cues, after 2 songs I was drumming along competantly (admittedly on Easy) without a mistake. Actual drummers won't have a second thought about Hard or higher but it inspired hope in me. With the visual cues, I could do it.
After that we made another switch, with myself picking up the mic and Ben taking up the drum kit, while Chris, as notably the worst of the Guitar Heroes, reluctantly picked up the guitar and instantly fell in love with the way it worked. Ben got to drumming after we had a practice on a Weezer song and then we went for the big time; OK Go's Here it Goes Again. And by the Gods it was electrifying. There we stood in the shop with a crowd of interested people behind us and it felt like we were on stage. Since I actually knew the lyrics, we hammered out a near perfect rendition of the song. Afterwards we were vibrating from the adrenaline rush of playing our first "set".
So there you have it. Rock Band is to me, on a par with a religious experience. It offers everything Guitar Hero does, magnified a hundred times. The song library is extensive (with downloads being added weekly), the equipment feels solid and robust (assuming you don't try to smash the guitar off an amp), the character creator seems varied and entertaining and the experience seems just sublime. Since the majority of people who play this will have a Guitar Hero II guitar lying around as well, you don't even need to shell out the extra for a bassist to join you. I really can't recommend this highly enough. The huge cost is the only downside which if it's a group of you clubbing together isn't so terrifying.

5 out of 5 stars drums   January 3, 2008

"Someone said somewhere that if you mastered these drums you should consider playing them in a real band. Err, no. Play real drums. "

erm no.

someone actually said if you can master the drums on the hardest level then youre good enough to play real drums.

not that you should use the RB drums in a real band, how would that even work?

5 out of 5 stars you all need to stop complaining   April 25, 2008

omg the game is so expensive!!! well it was always gonna be exspensive i always anticipated 140+ release price and everyone i know did. having played the game i can tell you the immense fun i had playing it. all you people saying lets boycott buying the game it wont work. the amount of people that will still buy the game is alot if you cant afford it get a job. 6 out of 10 people will buy this game whatever you say EA wont be forced into a price drop they dont need your money they have enough already. so but it at the reduced price of 140 its very reasonable and you will not regret it.
