Better long term bet than Xbox 360 December 17, 2007 16 out of 22 found this review helpful
I have a PS3 and Xbox 360 Elite sitting next to each other under the 1080p TV so can compare both very easily.
The three areas where the Xbox 360 wins are the on-line experience (although gold membership costs money, it's very good), built-in rumble in the controller (official rumble controllers for PS3 won't be in the UK until next year) and right now many of the must-have games are either Xbox 360 only or poorly supported on PS3.
For raw design and engineering however, the PS3 wins hands down. It runs cooler and is much quieter than the Xbox 360 -- put a disk into the PS3 there's barely a whisper while the Xbox 360 sounds like a desktop fan at max speed. The built-in WiFi in the PS3 is a great boost -- I had to buy a WiFi adapter to hook up the Xbox 360. Also Blu-Ray films look fantastic on the PS3 so I won't be buying the HD-DVD add-on for 360, particularly as Blu-Ray looks like it's getting the better of HD-DVD in media sales. When I got my PS2 many years ago, I thought backwards compatability was important but in practice I only played one PS1 game for about half an hour on my PS2 -- everything else was PS2-specific. My PS2 was put away when I got the PS3 and although I loved the games, I don't miss them (ditto for my original Xbox games).
As an either/or choice, I think the PS3 is the way to go as the number of quality PS3 games is increasing and by the middle of next year, I think the PS3 will be the much better supported. At least if you buy a PS3 now, it's more likely to be working then than the Xbox 360 (red ring of death anyone?).
SUCH GOOD VALUE!!!!! November 25, 2007 8 out of 11 found this review helpful
This 4OGB version is sooooo good value its unbeliveable iu have played my mates 60GB PS3 many times and when my 40GB version arrived i found absolutely no differences in gameplay at all and i havent even wanted to play a PS2 game on it yet because the PS3 game is sooo much better in quality IF YOUR WORRIED ABOUT NOT PLAYING PS2 GAMES OR REDUCTION IS QUALITY THEN DONT BECUASE YOU WILL HAVE NO NEED TO PLAY PS2 GAMES AND THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE 2 CONSOLES IN GAMEPLAY AND GRAPHICS BELIEVE ME!!!! BUY IT NOW!!!!
playstation 3 console December 14, 2007 6 out of 8 found this review helpful
had a playstation 3 for about 7 weeks before that had a wii which i sold to buy playstation great bit of kit cant fault it.lot of people moan about not enough games but that is getting better and there are some great games out now, since playing on my playstation my nephew sold his 360 to get a ps3.the blue ray dvds played on a high def tv are somthing else.if you have never seen blue ray in action go to tv shop and ask for a demo you will be amazed. i payed 300 pound for a playstation 1, 50 pounds more for playstation 3 i would say that was good value, i would recomend this machine to anyone.
The daddy of consoles! December 21, 2007 8 out of 11 found this review helpful
To think of the Sony Playstation 3 Console as just a games console would be a mistake. The console is capable of so much more then just playing games, what with the capability of playing DVD'S & BLU-RAY disc & also storing digital photos & Mp3 as well as the option to download games & play online games as well. The PS3 fits in well as part of any home entertainment system what with it's glossy black finish & stylish looks. OK so there are not a huge amount of games out for the PS3 yet but lets face it there are never a great amount of games for any console when it's first released, & you can be sure within a few more months there will be just as many games out for it then there is the Xbox360. To get the best experience from the PS3 I would recommend a high definition TV to view the HD graphics in it's full glory as well as it's fantastic blu-ray playback. OK so the PS3 is a little on the pricey side, but lets not forget your getting a lot more then just a games console for your money.
Hmmmmm December 14, 2007 9 out of 13 found this review helpful
Ok, i've had a 360 for about 6 months and its broken down once. if u ask me thats one too many! my old ps2 i had for like 2 years before it even started to go wrong which is acceptible considerin it fell a couple of times n lets face it, it was a bit of a flimsy console. well my point is, my 360 might have come back a little quieter but i'm being drawn towards a PS3 more and more everyday simply because of what the facts are, the PS is a better system with, like everyone else says, so much damn potential.
the 360 is great don't get me wrong but if i want to enter the HD market i DO want something more than microsoft has to offer. i don't want to pay more for my console to be wireless (which is why i have a nasty ethernet cable running thru my gaff now) i dont wana keep changin batteries over, i dont wana use ms points, i dont want to pay even more for a hd dvd drive (which by the looks of it is gonna fall flat to blu ray) and for **** sake i dont wana pay to play people online. sony really know how to make a controller too! PS controllers have always been the mack daddy on the streets, xbox one is nice but only 'great' for fps. AND with PS u get a web browser and more than anything, just plain old quality thru-out. how many of you have had a problem with a pc? most likely a ms fault. some guy on here shunned the ps and he said 'look at the figures', well i think most people with a games console on the mind these days are only gonna be lookin at one figure, the cost, which is pretty fantastic now this 40gig is out but i would still of happily paid for the 60 because as someone on here said, its an investment. just look at what u get, a games machine on par or better than a 360, a blu-ray dvd player (look how much one costs by itself), a web browser, and in a few months a freeview reciever. games might not be in the highest of figures right now but the selction for 360 IS more than anything first person shooters but in the near future theres some awesome stuff coming out on playstation.
more than 450 for an xbox that will play HD-DVD's and allow you to play people across the world....wirelessly....for a year. hahaha i meant the subscription but the console would probably die first
300 quid for a playstation that does all of it in one box. and even more. AND forever thanks to no stupid subscriptions!!
oh and if u want backward compatability that probably means u've got or had a ps2, couldn't u just play on that? is it really so much trouble to av 1 more lead in your tv? plus it doesn't even have to be plugged in much of the time, think green!
So im gonna end it like this. I'm happy with my 360 and im so glad i got it dirt cheap only a couple of months old but i think after crimbo the PS3 is gonna kick some xbox n wii booty, and thats when ima buy me one.
ill keep hold of the 360 but i cant see it living up to a PS when they're sittin side by side, id say another half year & the 360 will be in the coffin once again but this time buried in my garden with a headstone saying RUST IN P**S!
