I would just like to say that this is the most Fun game ever.
easy to pick up,and easy to play. Online racing is incredible.
I also own a PS3. I loved Call of duty 4 online . i thought the best thing ever.This is the gold standard for PS3. MarioKart Wii easily tops it, and is more playable. Childlike, Fun, in a second you go from 1st to last, over a (1) mistake in steering, (2) weapon used by any opponent (3) falling of the cliff by being bumped of by an opponent. The Online is where it beats PS3. the opponents are Worldwide. Sony Europe only does people from Western Europe. But if you got mates in Japan / US / Australia / Malaysia anywhere with Club Ninetendo, In my case I have, You can link with them.
The ultimate game to date.

if you have wii and you want a good game to start you off or your first driving game?
this is it!
ive been looking for my first wii driving game for ages! but when i heard this, i saved my money for it!
FEATURES:

bikes & tricks:
new to the MK series is the ability to do tricks and ride motor bikes!
tricks earn you more speed and bikes can do wheelies to the finish!

I love this game! The online multiplayer is great and so much fun. I currently have no friends to play against online :( but the multiplayer function is keeping my friends, family and I entertained.
The graphics are great and play is fast and furious. There are enough tracks and battle grounds for hours of fun even in one sitting.
This is by far the best game I have brought to date for multiplayer fun and and equal first place for individual fun with mario galaxy.

Since buying the Wii more than 1 year ago, Mario Kart is simply the most fun we have had playing so far! It's zany, crazy, racing action, and excellent to be able to race against opponents online...it gets very competitive and addictive so beware!
Indeed to unlock the cars, characters and courses you do need to spend some time completing the grand prix sections under single player, as well as racing online (certain unlockables are only available after beating a certain number of online opponents) and completing time trials. But hey, where's the fun in using cheat codes!!
I have been reading some comments on Amazon and must laugh - PLEASE DON'T SAY A GAME IS TERRIBLE SIMPLY BECAUSE YOU CANNOT WIN!!!! I have personally unlocked 95% of characters and cars, all courses on 50cc and 100cc, as well as beginning to unlock all courses on 150cc. Games aren't designed to be easy. It's about tactics, perhaps not trying to be in 1st place all through the race because then indeed - you WILL be had by a flying blue tortoise shell helmet!
Closing comment - if you do not own this game and are not afraid of doing your best to win and unlock, please buy Mario Kart and take up the challenge! Don't be put off by those lesser gamers who can't take a good beating just before the finish line.

Well finally it's here! Mario Kart Wii! Is fun for everybody and there is a Wi-Fi connection so you can play with friends or against the world! Even though I'm Dianes' son she still thinks its' great aswell! Now buy the game, and happy racing!
