Great game - must buy at this price June 8, 2008 This game retains most of the fun and the features of the PS2 version. Some bits are missing, like the commentary but so what. Really good fun and addictive. The fewer buttons actually make it more fun!
It looks like PES, it feels like PES, and it fits in your pocket! March 4, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Aside from a few flaws, which people will obviously pick out, this is a brilliant little game, and a great advert for the potential of portable gaming in 2008.
It is true that it goes a bit jerky at times when there's a lot going on, usually in the penalty area, but not to the extent where it actually affects your enjoyment. Indeed, it is the only reason it looses one star.
Also, it's a bit more awkward to control than on a normal console, but then it is a handheld console and it wouldn't be fair to expect parity between it and say the PS2 version.
The only other negatives I don't really consider major issues, for example, there's only one stadium, but I really don't care, when do you actually notice what stadium you're playing in? And also, commentary is limited to when a goals been scored, but again, this isn't really a let down. Lets face it, the commentary does get a bit boring after a few games doesn't it!
The plus side is that this is a game that is graphically brilliant, comparing favorably with its home console counterparts, and feels just like any version of PES. The same movement, tactics, etc etc. The master league is in there, and works just like it always has done, except you can sync it with your PS2 game, carry on playing on the PSP, then transfer your progress back to the PS2 game and carry on there. A really excellent feature.
Any fan of the PES series I believe will be really impressed with this, and anyone new to the series, it's as good a starting point as any. It really is PES in your pocket! To be able to play a football game as good as this on the train, or at the airport, or in the garden, I think is reason enough to warrant buying a PSP.
Up to date but no better than the last one! March 20, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
OK so we've got all the latest line-ups thats a plus. Still only 1 stadium (in fact exactly the same stadium as in the last PES - the cheapskates!!!) thats a minus. All the player likenesses seem to have got worse rather than better. The user-interface has changed but I'm fairly indifferent about it.
I cant really work out what they've actually been working on in the two years since PES2006. Game play has slowed down a little and seems a touch more realistic but there's not a great deal different. If you haven't got the last one then buy this one - otherwise don't bother!
Still miles better than FIFA though!
Desperate times........ March 8, 2008 Well, i bought this so i have somthing to do if im on a bus or dinner break etc and im bored. I think thats all ill play or for. Definately inferior to the Ps2 version in every way. Graphically, the detail is good, but some edges look rough and jerky at times. The framerate becomes incredibly slow if your in the penalty area usually with more than 2/3 players on screen. It can mess you up sometimes as you mistime passes and shots. I dont care about only 1 stadium really, dont take much notice of that anyway. another bug flaw for me is no commentary. Except 'Its a goal' or 'Great goal' when you score. Takes away the feel of the game slightly and even if commentary is repeated every so often, i still like it as it adds more realism in my opinion. Carrying over all my edit data from the Ps2 version is a good feature though, so all kits are correct and names, etc. All other modes from the Ps2 version are on the game and it generally is a very good game, just the certain flaws drag it down.
good May 12, 2008 Although when you get on the pitch you have pretty good graphics There are downsides. 1. In my opinion the loading times take ages and will will really annoy you, even for corners there are loading times. 2. Also there is hardly any commentary. STILL IT IS WAY BETTER THAN FIFA AND HAS GRAET GRAPHICS. Worth a punt!
