Nintendo Wii - its the future! August 15, 2007 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
We bought our Wii from Amazon, arrived 2 days later with first class postage. It is absolutely awesome! Its so much fun, a completely different experience from playing on a playstation or similar. Bought Wii Play for the extra remote and the multiplayer experience is fantastic. The fact that it gets you up and jumping around makes it much more enjoyable than other consoles (although a lamp shade has already felt the force of a wayward tennis serve!) Can also use it to surf the web which is a handy extra. An additional bonus is that I've found I can also use the Wii as a streamer. Using the (free) Orb software can stream music from PC through the hifi via the wireless network. All in all brilliant piece of kit, definitely worth getting. You won't regret it!
Wii are having fun now! May 10, 2007 60 out of 65 found this review helpful
Had many consoles over the years, played too many games to name, but nothing prepared me for the freshness of the Wii. The simplicity of the control system makes for lots of fun. Wii sports shows there is no need for complicated graphics if you have game play.
In the end that is what the Wii is all about, and isnt that why we buy these things. You can buy a PS3 (I have), a high end PC (guilty again), but graphics alone do not make a great game. Been able to box the tv or swing your vitual bat is simple and so much fun. I am never going to give up my PC, but I think it may see less of me.
The only down side is my arm hurts! and my cheeks will from the smiling.
From a logical point of view... November 21, 2007 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
My first consol was a PlayStation 1, i loved it, it had great games and graphics...then I got a PlayStation 2, better graphics, kind of newish games, still loved it...then i decided to get an Nintendo 64,.....to this day me and my friends stilll play this over any other consol i own!!! The games were so original and vibrant in comparison to the PlayStation...
then, I got a Wii, sorry but OH MY GOD! i've had it for a year now, wen i turned it on, made my Mii, popped in Wii sports and played my first game of Wii tennis, i was amazed, no buttons, no tutorial, just pick up and play.
over time i've played and completed Red steel, the story line is good, but the playing is so much better, the fact that you now aim with your hand, pull the 'b button' like a trigger to shoot, swing the nunchuck as you lob a genade and block and attack with the remote as you use it in a sword fight makes your experiance SO much better...think, otherwise youd sit down, push X to shoot, aim with the little pads, press RS to duck and hold L1 and release to throw a grenade...maybe good graphics..but this had me standing up, it had me literally dodging side to side throwing my arm in an exageratted throw...the whole concept of being able to do the movments your self is fantastic!!! the Wii delivers exccelent play, and even my mum,dad and grandparents were able to easily play wii sports
Same for zelda, excellent storyline, and instead of R1 to lock on and X to attack, you swing the remote to draw the sword and attack, if your good at puzzles then its a fantastic game!
However, if you want good graphics, storyline and dont care what the gameplay is like then seriously go for an XBOX 360 or PS3, but to me, none are in comparison to the Wii, and i've played all types.
The Nintendo Wii - Well worth the wait
Fantastic fun! December 14, 2007 19 out of 20 found this review helpful
The Wii is very small and compact, extremely quiet in use, and light on electricity. The Wii Remote and Nunchuk take a little getting used to, but once you've made the adjustment, it really adds a new dimension to gaming.
There are some great games available for the Wii right now, but the console is also plagued with a ton of shovelware and ports. I can see this situation changing though, as the popularity of the Wii has sent its sales racing past the Xbox 360 after being on the market for only a year. That said, there are still enough good games available to keep you entertained!
Some people will compare the Wii to the PS3 or Xbox 360 and say that it's inferior. Graphically, it certainly is, but then it was never designed to compete in that area so I think that criticism is unfounded. A bowling game could look almost photo realistic on the Xbox 360 for example, but it's the control scheme that makes the big difference on the Wii. When the Wii Remote controls are implemented well by game developers, it really adds something to the gameplay that graphical power alone can't achieve. Clearly that works both ways - for example, Assassin's Creed almost certainly wouldn't work as well on the Wii due to the lack of graphical oomph - but the point still stands that the Wii offers a unique gaming experience. In some respects it's a bit like the PSP and Nintendo DS. The DS is graphically inferior, yet it has unique features that enable developers to try out new things.
I've had my Wii since launch day last year, and I also own an Xbox 360. I love them both. If I didn't own a Wii I'd be missing out on great exclusive titles like the fantastic Super Mario Galaxy, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, and the forthcoming Mario Kart Wii which will no doubt be excellent. It's also a great party machine, and lots of fun when you've got a few friends over. It's not for everyone - if you want HD graphics or a media extender, look elsewhere - but I have to give the Wii 5 out of 5 simply based on the fun I've had with it over the last year.
BTW, it's good to see Amazon selling these at the RRP, rather than selling only expensive bundles, or marking the price way up as some other stores are doing.
Cute, Quirky and Certainly Holding It's Own September 8, 2007 46 out of 50 found this review helpful
Skipping beyond the obvious comparison between this generations console graphics I have to say that as a very proud owner of both the Nintendo Wii and Xbox 360 the Wii certainly holds its own. Packed into it's tiny cute diminutive shell is some awesome game play functions. This has been thought out clearly for the ageing/diminishing population in Japan and has been a success with the older traditionally non-gamers in Europe and the USA. What it offers is a unique method of console interaction only ever so slightly experienced by the PC enthusiast and delivered this to mass market. There are many people out there who still struggle with the concept that they are controlling the character in video games and that is where the Wii breaks down barriers. You're much considered idiotic spasm when something goes horridly wrong in game play, actually translates to action within your game. Online multiplayer is definitely lacking but this is not particularly needed since the Wii is intended to be interactive multiplayer with your friends present and not via proxy.
From the beauty of Zelda Twilight Princess to the enjoyable golfing action of Tiger Woods 07 this cute quirky console has won over a scientist/hardcore PC enthusiast and Half Life 2 gamer. Keep an eye out for Metroid Prime 3 Corruption, Nintendo's answer to Halo.
Lastly it is very difficult to compare consoles since they typically deliver different modes of game play to the end user. You as an individual decide what games you like. I have no time for slating one against another.
