IF YOU HAVE A DRM ISSUE READ THIS October 29, 2008 5 out of 12 found this review helpful
I'm sorry but the amount of computer illiterate people on here sobbing about DRM being a spyware and how it will 'kill your computer to the point of undeniable death' is starting to annoy me. So, THIS is the solution to ALL people who have a DRM problem or are a bit :/ over whether to buy this product because of it.
First things first, Far Cry 2 is an UNBELIEVABLE game, I love every moment of it and I'm playing through the career again to do bits I missed. It's awesome, can't fault the game.
Now to the DRM, yes, I'm not going to lie, it's a pain in the George Bush. But it only comes with legal copies of the game right? So if you have this problem then you must of already purchased the game, therefore providing EA with profit and a turnover. So why would they then complain if you, 'edited', the DRM?
Go to any, (of the many), pirate torrent websites. Download a Far Cry 2 crack. Replace the factory version of Far Cry 2.exe with this cracked version and hey presto! No more limited installations, no more backdoor malware. You can do this before you initially try and run the game, or after you've first started it up for the first time. The only difference is that if you do it after you'll have to hope that the serial number is accepted.
So there we are all you DRM worriers and condemners. Why complain about having DRM in your computer, when you can just replace it after LEGALLY purchasing the software? Best of both worlds! :)
Hope this helps anyone stuck with DRM or anyone looking into buying this product, it truly is an unbelievable game. I can't describe how unbelievable it is.
**update** After re-reading through my review I realised I haven't an important point clear at all!
No, what I'm suggesting you do isn't legal by any stretch of the imagination. But there is no law that enables the company to prosecute the consumer for changing files in a software that they paid for. Not in the UK government anyway, I don't know about anywhere else, sorry :S.
Which means, unless EA have added a loophole to any particular law in the Terms and Conditions, (which to be honest they probably have but it's still worth checking out), then you can change the factory .exe with a cracked one and be immune from illegal games copying or whatever the law is called in the UK. From experience American laws are a bit wackier and a hell of a lot stricter, so this probably won't apply to you guys over yonder pond.
But there we are! I'm not promoting illegal activities, but if anyone is like me and just wants to play this game so bad but doesn't want to pirate it because it's so good and are only concerned about the DRM.
That's the way out. :)
This is the modern world October 25, 2008 3 out of 7 found this review helpful
This is the modern world, like it or hate it, it is not perfect but it is the one we live in. Software publishers have the right to protect their product, so if the protection doesn't work, it isn't convenient for you, that's just a sad fact of modern life?
THIS GAME ROCKS! That's what we are reviewing isn't it?
If you liked Far Cry, then you will be equally impressed with Far Cry 2. Buy it, enjoy it, if the protection software causes you any problems then complain! Get pissed off with the pirates not the publishers, they are trying to make an honest living. Think about how much fun you can have for 25 anywhere else, grow up and stop your whining! Value for money? You bet!

Wow, whinging Maggots. October 20, 2008 16 out of 44 found this review helpful
to anyone thinking about buying this game, go ahead. Far Cry 2 will be a huge breakthrough in gaming and on a simpler level just a brilliantly fun and engrossing game to play.
What the hell is all the whining about DRM/Securom for.. all these sad tossers probably have more malware from the porn they fileshare.
Developers have a right to try to protect their products, and hell unless you do break the law trying to crack/download games/films for free there is no reason to be against Securom.
to conclude.. please people.. review the GAME take your picket fence of nonsense elsewhere..

I went on holiday to spain last year....it was great.
(Just as relevant as all the other reviews for a game that isn't out yet)
