Best Game Ever! February 10, 2008 I dont have this game, my friend down the road does but when i go on it it is soooooo fun! Any hsm fan should get this, im 11, nearly 12, so is my friend and my other friend is 14 and she loves it too. Great game as i said and it will keep you entertained for hours! (by the way im D.Ward's daughter)
Great for kids, but avoid if you're expecting anything like Singstar! December 29, 2007 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Well, firstly although this has the Singstar logo on the box and works with the Singstar mikes, it's *not* a Singstar game. As such, don't expect the user-friendliness, great graphics, real song footage and ease of control that we've all become used to with Singstar.
The cons: Firstly, as other reviewers have pointed out, the HSM songs on this game are not sung by the original artists, and there is no film footage. All the characters are cartoon lookalikes which can be disappointing. The worst feature of this particular game, however, is the fact that the controls are so difficult to use. After an hour of play, my daughter and I still had trouble with the controls and determining which character was supposed to be singing which part. Unlike Singstar, there is no "blue mic/red mic" indicator to tell you which part you're singing, so it's a case of trial and error. I can't tell you how many times "Troy"'s voice sang with a picture of Gabriella, and how many times my daughter's score turned out to be mine, and vice versa. Luckily, this didn't annoy my daughter half as much as it annoyed me. It almost seems to be deliberately and unnecessarily difficult to fathom out the controls. The other frustration is the sound quality; even when you've adjusted the mic sensitivity and volume ad nauseam (and you can't do this directly from the controller during the song), the "artists" were still too quiet and the mics seemed to be blaring.
The pros: It does at least have all the songs from HSM 1 and 2 (even though you have to unlock the songs from film 2, but these are easy to unlock). It's bright, colourful, and gave my 8 year old an afternoon of entertainment.
All in all, a worthy purchase for HSM-mad children, but if you're expecting graphics, quality, gameplay and user-friendly controls similar to the actual SingStar games, you may well be disappointed.
Must for HSM fans. January 20, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This game is a kind of spin off of the singstar games, but Disney style. It is great if you love the High School Musical films. More about singing the songs rather than the story (although there is a story mode). It Fails in two areas, it is confusing in the set up and play (especially if there are two players) and the pitch bar/meter isn't the greatest. Being designed for children it is easy to get high 'grades' in your singing and I haven't yet found a way to increase the difficulty. All in all a good game but could be better. Only really a must for High School Musical fans.
Cashing on a franchise November 26, 2007 15 out of 17 found this review helpful
If you're looking to just sing along to the songs from the film, this is the game for you, but don't expect anything more.
The story(game) section of the disc can be completed in all of 10 minutes and most of that is spend listen to the narrative between songs. It is also too easy to get an A+ and unlock the features. Although it has the songs from both films, the second films songs are clearly an afterthough and have to be unlocked.
The bouncing basketball which is meant to help with pitch is more of a distraction than a help, and the mic sensitivity setting before each song is pointless.
It was disappointing that they didn't even bother using the original soundtrack as the songs aren't exactly the same.
Disappointed November 13, 2007 20 out of 24 found this review helpful
I was quite disapointed with this game.
I had been looking forward to it for weeks but when I played it, it was nothing like I thought it was going to be.
The songs aren't sung by the stars of the film, the whole thing is in cartoon and it is waaay to easy to get an a+
