The best console yet. May 6, 2002 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
In the past, i've bought each of nintendos consoles and have yet to be disapointed. i currently own a playstation 2 also but in recent months i've begun to bore of computer games as a whole. i'm not saying that the current crop of games for the playstation aren't good, its just that i feel that they lack a certain quality. This has changed with the return to gaming of nintendo. Not only does the console look great, but everything about it points forward to the future. The size of the console is impressive for starters, but also the size of the actual games and the memory card is also very unique. The joypad is the next thing to impressive me. Although from looks, i wasnt sure about it but within seconds of using it you could see that nintendo has yet again developed the best controller possible. From the way the buttons are expertly positioned, to the shape and size of the controller being moulded around the average persons hand. There are also many other pluses from the gamecube. Reletively no loading times occur and saving games takes a fraction of a second. The system is near silent also compared to the wirring fan sound of the playstation 2.The most important factor that makes the gamecube so addictive is its games. Nintendo are always responsible for some of the most stunning, adventurous and exciting new games around. Many classics have originated from its consoles and unlike playstation and the xbox systems, they are usually exclusive to its systems. Games such as Luigis mansion and Rogue Leader are already classics in my eyes, and with so many other games to follow shortly, i cannot see the gamecube suffering the same problems the n64 suffered. I could go on about this forever (and probably already have). As a 21 year old, i dont think anyone can say that the system suffers from being to kid orientatd or cutesy. Some of the scariest games ever seen such as eternal darkness and the best yet resident evil games are soon on their ay to the system. All in all, a fantastic console that has rejuvenated my appetite for gaming and playing computer games. At the current price it cannot be beaten for value either. Markus
Nintendo continue to produce the best hardware July 5, 2002 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
I own all the consoles, so I am not here just to sing the praises of Nintendo and slag off the competition, but this is THE best next gen console on the market. Period. Nintendo have always made the best software (games like Zelda, Mario and Goldeneye are testiment to that) but they occasionaly make it difficult for developers to work with the systems architecture. The gamecube is easy to program for meaning games are in development for a shorter amount of time and to a higher quality. Capcom deciding to release all the Resident Evil games on the Gamecube also shows that big developers are backing the small machine. ALong with Square now producing a final fantasy game for the console the PS2 no longer has any stellar exclusive titles. The controller is the best controller from any console, and puts the xbox brick to shame. The shoulder buttons are particularly good analogue controls. Loading times are considerably shorter than the PS2 and not far off the xbox - but they never get in the way of the games. All in all Nintendo produce another stellar console that will really shine when Zelda, Mario and Metroid Prime are released towards the end of the year. P.S. At this price everyone should own a gamecube.
The Worlds Best Dedicated Games Console October 31, 2003 16 out of 18 found this review helpful
With the increasingly childish scrapping and ignorance found among (mainly younger) gamers when it comes the "the best" console, it is fairly easy to be blinded my typical puplic opinion and gossip when chosing the console that is best, and I enthasise, for you. One thing people need to realise when considering spending large sums of money on something you don't really need is that it doesn't matter what THEY think, what THEY have. In fact, probably the only reliable source of reference is a multi format games magazine. You will find that whoever you ask, wherever you go, there will always be a divided opinion, and you are not doing yourself a favour by following suit with whoever you live among. What do you look for when you buy a games console? It has DVD eh? Hang on, don't you have one of those? It has realistic graphics? Have you seen the millions of games made up to this day? These things are not a factor, mearly a distraction. You are looking for the best GAMES, the games that you have FUN playing. You aren't impressing your mates, you are buying, like anything else, something YOU believe will enhance your slifestyle in a way that is worth YOUR money and time. Nintendo have been making video games for years. Nintendo has been around since the late 1800s, and have developed more inventions and concepts that you can imagon. Nintendo have always created what they do best, and what is most important. They create new, origonal, fun and inovational games. Nearly everyone of Nintendo's games has excelled in quality in almost every field. Nintendo have created some of the world's most famous and loved characters and franchises such as Mario Bros., Zelda, Donkey Kong, Metroid, F Zero, Starfox, and many more. Nitendo Gamecube offers these brilliant characters and franchises up to date with the help of the Gamecube's brilliant powerfull graphics proccesser from ATi and it's perfectly designed controller that melts into your hands. Nintendo has concentrated on what rival companies don't seem to have, and thats the quality of it's prime product, video games. You can only find these superbly crafted games on Ninteno's latest system and this is Gamecubes main strength. Surely this is what's most important? The Gamecube now retails at a staggering 79 which is affordable to a wide range of people, forfilling Nintendo's aim. To make brilliantly fun games accessable to the whole world, all ages and lifestyles. It's not just the 1st party games that are great however, Gamecube also has a great deal of 3rd party games available and coming soon, such as Resident Evil, Metal Gear, Timesplitters 2, Burnout 2 and James Bond. The list is endless, wether your looking for twisted violent experiences or cute and fluffy games, all that you may be looking for can be found on this brilliant console. A range of 200+ games should be available by this coming Christmas. The Gamecube is superbly designed with brilliant accesories, varying from a Broadband Adaptor to a cheap, but highly reliable and large memory card. The console can produce incredible graphics using its "Flipper" Graphics chip, all loaded in the blink of and eye with the powerful state-of-the-art "Gekko" Processor. Also, using a special link lead, the Gamecube can be linked with the dominant Gameboy Advance (or SP) for never seen before possibilitys! This feature can be used as an extra screen to display game data or an alternative contoller. This is soon to be found in Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles, imagon four player cooperative play! Also, some games when linked up can be used to unlock new data such as extra levels and power ups! This is a truly origonal concept that demonstrates Nintendo's striving to introduce new ideas into a frantic market. Because of the four controller ports you can also experience wonderful gaming fun with your freinds and family with excellent titles such as Super Smash Bros. Melee! If you beleive that games and pure fun and enjoymant are what you want most from your home console (and you should do) then look no further! Buy a 'cube now for Christmas at it's new price, and enjoy the new Mario Kart game soon available with your family, a critically acclaimed multiplayer experience on the previous Nintendo64! Go and treat yourself with the great innovation and fun of Nintendo! And you know what? It's only going to get better in the next three years... Ben Mobbs.
Absolutely Superb October 12, 2002 15 out of 17 found this review helpful
I thought for 3 months before i got my Gamecube. I was trying to think weather i should get an XBox, Gamecube or an upgrade to a ti4200 graphics card for my PC. In the end i chose the Gamecube, and i have to say it was the best decision i've made in my life. When i got it home, i had Rogue Leader with it, i booted it up and i was absolutely stunned, the graphics were immensly good with almost no slowdown. I've now had it for around 2 months, and its just got better and better. From Resident Evil to Tony Hawks to Super Mario Sunshine, each game i buy is another leap forward for fun and excitement. With all the great titles coming up for it aswell (Im most excited about RE0/4 and Eternal Darkness, but there are many more, beleive me, this is Nintendo). I used to be an AVID Sony fan, i wouldve gone to hell and back with them (well maybe not quite but still...) but now im a complete convert. As for the other consoles, they all have their merits. Second best in my opinion is PS2 because it has an excellent catagory of games, and thrid is xbox because the only merit for this that i can find are graphics. Now i admit its a very powerful and graphically impressive machine, but thats about where it ends...and its not streets ahead, you may have heard quotes of 125 million pixels/sec for XBox and 6-12 million for Gamecube, this is not true, as the XBox measure is on flat shaded, no effects pixels, and the Gamecube one is on fully textures, bump mapped, lighted (you name it) pixels...If you think its a kiddies console, think again, im 17 and i love it and would recommend it to anyone, ESPECIALLY adults and teenagers. To sum up, go for whats best for you. If you cant live without HALO, then get an XBox, although i wouldnt recommend it. If you want safety, stability and some admittedly excellent games, get a PS2, although again, i wouldnt recommend it. However, if you want to be wowed, have innovative and exciting games, aswell as superb graphics, take a little risk and take the Gamecube, because beleive me, it has a bright future ahead....
Undoubtably the best console around June 6, 2003 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
When my gamecube arrived i couldnt belive how small it was (smaller tan your head!). This console sure packs a punch; graphics, sound, visuals, gameplay all blow xbox and ps2 away. Nearly all the games are good ( i got Zelda windwaker and Enter the Matrix, amazing games) and the loading times non existent. If you are still trying to decide what console to get, STOP and look no further then the gamecube it really is awsome. Although the Xbox has a larger processor and internet/dvd capabilities it simply doesnt match the dedication Nintendo have put in to make the gamecube simply an amazing games console. Conclusion: for fast amazing dedicated gameplay get a Gamecube. for dvd watching at gaming get an Xbox or Ps2 (at your peril)
