Review based on Japanese Import of GT5 Prologue January 17, 2008 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
Having bought the PS3 on launch i have had my moments of extreme doubt when i came to its purchase. However with Uncharted and now this, i am in love with the PS3. (And i can use the 5 disc Blade Runner blu ray as its an open region disc)I also have a 360 and love both machines. However the standard of the graphics and photo realistic graphics really make me wonder if the 360 could match it. Everytime i fire this up it amazes me. A solid 60fps, excellent rumble (i imported a dualshock 3 too and it works 100%) and thank the Lord, an in car view option!! Negotiating the mostly Japanese menus is a pain at times but the level of detail especially on the London and Nordwand levels (flowers by the roadside??)is incredible. Watching the replay on an HDTV screen is jaw dropping. Unless you are a car nut and GT fan then wait for the UK release. It really is awesome, and will sate my appetite until the full blown GT 5 appears later this year. Now if i can just work out the best way to a Ferrari 599.....
Good but could be better April 5, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I had this game for a few days now. GT HD bought some of the grip back into the game. Even GT 4 had better grip cars. Now we end up sliding off the track again. Okay I'm not one of those amatuers that goes round corners at 100 miles an hour. Ive been playing GT from the first game. This game the car handling and grip is something to be desired. You feel like your on ice a lot of the time. The A>I are very tough and aggressive. They seem to have better grip on their cars. Okay some of them veer off track but do they get slapped with the same penalties???
I got a Nissan GTR as the second car. 80,000 credits. Fair enough its fast but the handling is something to be desired. Its not that its bad. But it loses control a lot for a 4WD car. I'm not reckless but the handling in this game has gone back to the old school Gran Turismo. The grip is a pain. Good graphics full 1080p. Good everything its just that handling that is puzzling.
There are good tracks. London track is pointless because the road is barely wide enough for two Nissan GTR's. A lot of the tracks are narrow. Daytona is a good track where you can gain speed. But depending on your car the a.i will normally catch you up as if they had NOS or something. Despite you being in the best gear possible. Good game but Its not something revolutionary. Yes they got the in car view which is by far the greatest view in the game. But I hope the next GT has better grip on the road. Gran Turismo 3 and 4 mastered this. Why should Sony revert back to the old ice skate car handling it started off with in GT 1?
Also you will have to complete all of C B and A class races to unlock S class. Something that will prove frustating if you dont wise up to the latest batch of car handling physics. Better get used to it then...
A good buy if you loathe arcade racers
Excellent April 11, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is by far the best game I have for my PS3, I am totally addicted to it.
Installation is a bit of a pain and Multi Player is useless as all the other players seem to think it is some kind of destruction derby but apart from these problems the game is fantastic.
One word... Epic April 15, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Im a big fan of racing games, ive had every Gran turismo game there is. All of them were great but this is something else. Against Forza 2 it just ruins the xbox game, its in a totally different league. Graphically, its near perfect. I did spot a slight problem with dust if you run off the track, but that'll be ironed out quite easily. The handling of the cars is absolutely perfect, forget the preople who say it's rubbish, they're just wimps and idiots because they will all drive with the aids turned on. Turn them off and you can really see how much quality there is in the handling, you can feel understeer building up, give it your right thumb and the tail goes nuts, its great! Online is also awesome, the people I race are all dirty drivers and I hate that, when the real version comes out I hope the penalties are sorted out because these dirty drivers will be trying to ram you into a wall... alot. Nonetheless I have outsmarted them to win a few races and come 2nd/3rd in pretty much the rest. If you own a PS3, (If you don't, get one, you dont want to miss this game) this is absolutely essential, not only the best GT game ever, but the best racing game. Period
Any Top Gear Fans? October 27, 2007 5 out of 10 found this review helpful
GT3 was a great game, and very realistic, I never played GT4 but it sounds like an amazing game, but now we reach the fifth generation.
Recently anounced on the UK PS3 website sony told us that Polyphony Digital are linking up with the BBC, here is the article.
"Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) and Polyphony Digital, Inc., the creators of the best-selling racing franchise, Gran Turismo, have announced a collaboration with BBC Worldwide that will allow BBC's Top Gear programme to be downloaded through Gran Turismo TV (GT TV) on PLAYSTATION 3.
GT TV, a dedicated online channel packed with the latest news and content from the motoring world, will launch worldwide on PLAYSTATION Network in 2008. BBC Worldwide will provide 40 episodes of Top Gear, the award-winning BBC television series about motoring for download.
In addition, the Top Gear Test Track - the track featured each week on the show, where host Jeremy Clarkson and the Top Gear team test the latest cars - will be replicated in Gran Turismo 5 on PS3. For the first time in a racing game, players will be able to burn rubber and experience every white knuckle, hairpin turn on the Top Gear Test Track for themselves.
"We at Polyphony are great fans of the world's best motoring programme, Top Gear, so we're delighted to be collaborating with BBC Worldwide to deliver Top Gear content via Gran Turismo," said Kazunori Yamauchi, President, Polyphony Digital, "We're sure that players will be as thrilled as we are when they get the chance to put their own driving skills to the test on the Top Gear Test Track in GT5, as well as enjoying classic episodes of Top Gear via GT TV."
Simon Danker, Director, Digital Media, BBC Worldwide commented, "BBC Top Gear is the world's number one motoring media brand and we're thrilled to make it accessible to Gran Turismo gamers. We continue to explore different avenues to share our content with an expanding audience, and are delighted to participate with Polyphony Digital in the launch of this exciting new opportunity.""
With the ability to use the TG test track and watch Top Gear will be good, the perfect asset to what will be the Greatest Driving Simulator ever.
