5 out of 5 stars Thanks Friend   June 26, 2008

Thanks to a friend at a well known games emporium I have managed to secure an early release of this game for a week now so bear with me on this one. I know that reviews written before official release attract a fair bit of oprobium, but take it from me - as an uncommitted gamer who prefers family style games such as mario kart etc, this is right up there with the best I've played. I haven;t tried online - not sure it will be properly available until after release, but the multi-player is fantastic and the single player is just as good, except I'm rubbish so haven't got very far. But very often a lack of success would make me give up so it is a real triumph for this game that I keep coming back for more. The control system is good, very responsive, and the graphics are fine, but it's a fighting game made for families and is a great laugh so please don't be disappointed if it's not hi-tech and violent enough for you.

This is a really good game. Don't be put off by the fact that it's a beat-em-up, it's done in a very comical way and is hilarious.

I play this with my brother and we have a great time.

What more can I say? FIVE STARS!!!

Nintendo have done it again, after the brilliant Super Smash Bros. Melee, I wondered how they were going to top that. And in Brawl, Nintendo topped it with ease. With over 25 characters to choose from, some old and some new. You are spoilt for choice as to what character to go for. There is a very good single player mode, with the Classic Mode making a return. You play against different characters, and the last battle is against a returning enemy: the Master Hand.
The Subspace Emmisary is a nice addition to the game. There is a good storyline that unfolds as you work your way through it. I wont say what the storyline is like, but there was one moment in the storyline that I didn't see coming.
Brawl really comes into it's own in the Brawl mode. Up to four players battling at once = sheer madness, and fun at the same time. You can also go wi-fi with Brawl and fight against other people in the world. But it does feel a little unfinished in places, but when you see how much is in this game, it is easily forgivable.
If you are not in the mood for battling, you can go into the Spectator Mode, and place bets as to who you think will win the battle you are watching. I always seem to bet on the guy that is going to lose the match, so hopefully you'll have better luck than me.
One addition I like is the option to save battles, and take snapshots. You can save them to your Wii or SD Card, and then watch your best moments all over again.
There is a lot to this game, and I am really just scratching the surface as to what this game has to offer. And that is why I'm not wanting to say too much about the game. Otherwise it may spoil some of the things that I haven't mentioned the game has to offer

5 out of 5 stars i love this game!   July 4, 2008

when i got this i heard on the ONM forum about the laser problems and was panicked by them. but mine works so i'm happy!

before brawl came out my friends and i played melee for 4, near 5 years and were addicted.
now brawl.....

classic - this is where i started. this mode comprises of you fighting your way through a lineup of challenges, and some (like the final challenge) are more difficult than others. this is where you will meet new characters and fight to face them.

subspace emissary - a real adventure. a side-(and up and down) scrolling part to the game where you will unlock music, trophies and characters. this may be one of the best ideas EVER put into a smash bros game and is a real challenge with wonderful cut scenes and your actions decide your story.
a new form of powerups and collectable items are stickers which can power up your character in this mode!

Brawl - basically the vs mode for against mates in the room and cpu opponents. also a way to unlock stuff!

wifi - apart from lag at times, this is the biggest reason to have the wii connected to the internet! you can have random matches from people around the world, or against friends. and if you decide you need a break, you can bet some of your coins earned in the game on spectator mode, where you place bets on who will win a match.

graphics - amazing, especially with a proper component cable on an lcd!
gameplay - 4 control methods ( i chose to go with gamecube controller as it is what im used to)
best bits - wifi, assist trophies and the subspace. amazing stages to brawl on!
my only complaint (and a minor one) - lag during wifi.

there is also a snapshot mode built in to the pause menu which means any funny pics created when paused can be saved to the wii or an sd card, 2gb recommended. from the album they can be sent to other friends wii's. i already have some funny ones.

my first reaction - WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

if you have a wii, this is an essential buy, whether a casual or dedicated gamer! you will have many hours of fun and will bring you back for years to come, much like its predecessors. believe me and other gamers, this game is worth the wait! it wont leave the wii for around 6 months now!

5 out of 5 stars Depends on who you are....   July 5, 2008

Ok, purchased this game opened it and played it. It was very good. It is now a week on. still playing it but have have completed the campaign. STILL LOVIN IT! this game is a good buy for many reasons:
#1 Good campaign- the game has a long campaign that is different from the whole idea of knock em off screen
#2 Loads of different modes - there is loads of modes from basic training to an endless brawl so you wont complete it fast.
#3 Loads of unlocks! you never know what u gunna get! - Loads of trophies stickers arenas and characters to unlock
#4 Online play - not the best feature when worldwide but playing with friends is very good
#5 Very customizable - you can change the way you fight, look play and where you play. you can also make areas yourself, but they aren't that good.
#6 Good price (cheers amazon)
only negative point is online play is not that good and take about 5 mins to search for players (even if there are hundreds looking for you!) But overall a good job, and a good job that you should buy!
